Regular Session -2- Mav 23, 2005 <br />Mr. Spadafora stated the K-12 social studies curriculum is outlined very nicely. <br />Superintendent Schettini stated that the social studies framework is now stable. The <br />Asian and Chinese World Studies are very important and we have incorporated them into <br />the curriculum even though it is not yet part of the framework. <br />Mrs. Callan gave an overview of K-5 social studies curriculum. and framework changes. <br />Ellen Commito, Mark Linehan and Paul Guidetti gave positive feedback regarding the <br />"Skillful Teacher" course. <br />Mr. Spadafora stated it was a great presentation. <br />Mr. Nihan gave an overview of curriculum accomplishments using technology for <br />assessment. <br />Mr. Finigan introduced Mrs. Jane Darveau, Director of Guidance at Reading Memorial <br />High School. Mrs. Darveau described the four major categories in the Guidance <br />Department, Personal Counseling, Academic Counseling, Career Counseling and Post <br />Secondary School Counseling. <br />Mr. McFadden thanked Mrs. Darveau. <br />Mr. Joseph Cain gave an overview of Technology. <br />Mary DeLai gave an overview of outsourcing of Janitorial Services. She stated that it <br />was a mandate to save the district money. She has been reviewing the delivery of <br />custodial services. She suggested that they hire a private vendor to provide some or all of <br />the cleaning. <br />Mr. Spadafora moved to support the process of outsourcing Janitorial Services at <br />Reading Memorial High School as outlined in the Superintendent' memorandum <br />dated May 19, 2005 Mr. Carpenter seconded the motion. The vote was 5-0. Mr. <br />Dahl had left the room Mr. McFadden, Mr Spadafora, Ms. Webb, Mr. Carpenter <br />and Mrs. Gibbs. <br />Superintendent Schettini explained that he went through all of the line items in the budget <br />with Mr. Foley, Town Accountant. <br />Ms Webb moved that the $350,000 transferred to the Barrow's Building Proiect <br />and the $500,000 transferred to the Reading Memorial High School Building Project <br />approval by Town Meeting under Article 6 on April 28, 2005 be funded from the <br />Regular Day segment of the School Department's Budget Mr. Spadafora seconded <br />
