HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-05-01 Town Meeting WarrantTOWN WARRANT FINANCE COMMITTEE'S o OF Orb REPORT x cn on Q Warrant for Meeting May 1, 1940 Commonwealth of Massachusetts To either of the Constables of the Town of Reading; Greeting: In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Reading, quali- fied to vote in elections and town affairs, to meet in Security Hall, Woburn To the Citizens: Street, in said Reading on The Finance Committee's report is as WEDNESDAY, THE FIRST DAY OF MAY, 1940 follows: at eight o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles: Article 1. To hear and act on the reports of Town Officers and special committees and determine what instructions will be given town officers and special committees. Article 2. To see what sum the Town will vote to raise by bor- Article 2. To see what sum the Town will raise and appropriate for the administration, operation and for meeting the requirements of the Contributory Retirement System as defined in Sections 26 to 31H inclusive Article 3. Recommend $7,000.00. of Chapter 32 of the General Laws or what it will do in relation thereto. Board of Selectmen. Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Paragraph C of Section 77 of Chapter 32 of the General Laws relating to the pensions of laborers, foremen, inspectors, mechanics, draw tenders, assistant draw tenders and storekeepers in the employ of the Town or what Article 4. No recommendation. it will do in relation thereto. Board of Selectmen. Article 5. Recommend appropriation of $1,- Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to accept the report of the Board of Public Works upon the laying out as a public highway of a private way known as Lewis Street, under _ the provisions of law authoriz- ing the assessments of betterments, such highway being laid out in accord- ance with plan duly approved by the Board of Survey and filed in the office of the Town Clerk, in accordance with the Statutory requirements, Article 6. Recommend $1,107.00. and to see if the Town will accept the public way as laid out by the Board of Public Works as Lewis Street, and to see what sum the Town will raise and appropriate for the said laying out and the construction of said way, or what it will do in relation thereto. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the rentals for the current year from the buildings situated at numbers 1 Haven and 31 and 33 High Streets, and to see what sum the Town will appropriate by transfer from the receipts of the Municipal Light Department for the Article 7. And you are directed to serve this warrant, by posting an attested copy thereof in at least ten public places in the Town not less than seven days prior to May 1, 1940, the date set for the meeting in said warrant and to publish this warrant in the Reading Chronicle, one day at least prior to the said date.
