Minutes of the meeting held on November 16, 1993 at the S-chooll
Media Center.
The Meeting was convened at 7pm
Present _ Albert Lahood, Peter Hichborn, Deborah Reinemann,
Lawrence Chomsky, Marjorie Pacino, Carol Perletz
Roy Welsch (all present)
Observers - John Doherty, Richard Morrison
Minutes - Approved of previous meeting on November 2, 1993
Larry Chomsky was given a disk, containing parent/student
rules and regulations, to condense for possible parent handbook.
Co-chairman, Al Lahood, suggested that council members review
previous handouts for knowledge development. Council members
were asked to fill out the citizen input form on statewide
Educational goals to be sent to Carole Thomson, Mass. Dept. of
Education 350 Main St. Malden, MA 02148; also, the attributes of
a core value form should be sent to Louis Adreani, Assistant
Principal of CMS, in the next week. A date for Richard Strong
visit is under discussion. He will be speaking to Councils,
Dept. Heads and The School Committee about a Manageable
Assessment System.
The School PAC had some areas of concern for the School
Council members.
These were reported by Carol P. as: Stanford Achievement
" test Scores (how schools compare to others),
Class Size, tracking in Mathematics, Inclusion
Policies/resources, gifted and talented programs,
assessment of student's progress, learning outcomes on a
daily basis, Communication with parents, Foreign Language
training - how parents help students make choices ?
These items will be discussed at a later date after a
clarification of learned outcomes on a daily basis is secured -
at the next PAC meeting on December 7
There are two divisions in the budget process of the Reading
School System. Each individual School receives a set amount of
instructional money per student as well as a separate Central
Office Budget for larger items such as school physical needs,
mai itenunce and repaii items, fU ii .LU.Lt-,
CMS instructional amount was $86.25 per (420 students), special
needs $12.75 per (55 students). These figures are based on 1986
levels of financing.
In 1994 - $112 per (439 students) special needs $15 per (54
students)
Central office requests must be submitted to the Supt. by
November 30/93 in order of 1,2,3 priority ratings. The following
choices of 1994 were discussed - steam pipes, 3 computers, 2 desk
tops for instructional use in school areas, cafe tables, musical
instruments as projected for 1994, slide container for Science
Dept, full size human skeleton.
