Minutes of Meeting April 25, 1995
The Meeting convened at 7:30p.m. in the Consumer Family Science Room.
Members in attendance were: Lou Adreani, John Carpenter, Peter Hichborn, Carol Perletz,
Sue Redgate, and Roy Welsch. Absent was Larry Chomsky.
Also attending was John Doherty.
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted.
John Carpenter handed out an article about inclusion in education.
Lou made some brief comments regarding the superintendent's search.
The core of the meeting concerned the School Improvement Plan, specifically amendments
and changes to Goals 4 and 5, and the writing of Goal 6.
Goal 4: Professional Development & Allocation of Professional Development Funds
Rational was amended to read: Collaboration with other institutions, out of building sources, and
individual initiatives from staff, will allow Coolidge to benefit from shared resources and increased
knowledge. Goal was amended to read: To improve the Middle Grades through Professional
Development plans and activities that support the objectives of this School Improvement Plan.
Objective F was added. Develop and pursue individual professional development plans for all
staff members within the established E.B.O. process. Under Action Plan and additional task was
added and became the new Task #1. Submit for approval annual E.B.O.s. The original task #1
became #2 and so forth. Task #6 was amended to read: Hear a report of progress on the school's
professional development plans and activities. The time frame for Task #1 was amended to read
Annually, by October, for tasks 2,3,5,6 Annually, and for Task #4 1994-1997. A status of
ongoing was added to Task #4.
Goal 5: Student Learning Time Implementation: Resources Required was amended to read .5
family and consumer science teacher.
Goal 6: Guide the Effectiveness of Improvement Efforts. The Council worked on integrating-
ideas from text submitted by both John and Peter, and were successful in completing Goal #6.
(See attached). The completed plan will be proof read by Sue and Peter and ready to be
submitted to the School Committee by Monday, May 1, 1995.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 p.m.

6) GUIDE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EUPROVEMENT EFFORTS
Source: Mission Statement.
Rationale: Many initiatives are under way at Coolidge through this School Improvement Plan: staff
contributions; town-wide curriculum planning; recommendations from professional
organizations; statewide education reform efforts, and P.T.O. enrichment activities. Periodic
examination of the various processes and review of the associated results of these kinds of
initiatives will help the Coolidge Middle School Council to gain a clear view of the effect of
these various improvement endeavors. With this information, the School Council subsequently
can make informed recommendations to the building principal, and assist in keeping the
community which Coolidge serves informed on significant matters relating to education.
Goal: By implementing this School Improvement Plan, to assist Coolidge students, faculty, and staff
in achieving levels of knowledge and skills described in national, state, and local guidelines.
Objectives:
[A] Develop parameters to establish the scope of the Councirs "Request, Review, Recommend" function.
[B] Devise standards and a format for making recommendations about a reviewed endeavor to the building
principal.
[C] Establish a timetable to conduct the Councirs business under this goal as a part of what the Council
will undertake annually.
[D] Establish with the building principal effective channels of communication for the Coolidge staff,
students, and parents,. as well as other school councils.
