HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-04-15 Coolidge Middle School Council MinutesSchool Council Meeting 4 a April 15, 1997 a 5:30 PM w~ Attending: John Carpenter, Roy Welsch, John Doherty, Marie Pink, Renee Sbaschnig,~ Larry Chompsky Minutes: Approved as distributed. School Improvement Plan: Approved. Renee will work on new cover. Renee will also print three color copies. Restructuring Report: Roy- Concerned with the math program. Wonders if heterogeneous grouping is a result of a lack of funding. Marie- What is heterogeneous grouping going to do to the reading program? John D.- Torn between different research. Not planning on heterogeneous grouping in the 7th and 8th grade. Research shows heterogeneous grouping helps students in all subjects except for math- the research is split for math. The restructuring report is not the end of this issue, rather the beginning. Berger Award: This award is changing to a rotating award between all schools in Reading. Principal's Report: As far as the budget is concerned, we didn't do too badly. No regular day cuts were made. Regarding the building improvements, there are two architects left in the pool. The school committee decides on the architect. Hopefully, one will be chosen before June. New Parent Rep Needed: Larry will call Chuck Wayne for someone to take Roy's place. Vitae Qiscussion: Roy would like to suggest to the faculty that we put together a Professional Vitae. John D. will bring this up at the next staff meeting. Next Meeting: May 20th with Dr. H. This will be our last meeting for the year. Meeting concluded at 6:55 PM
