the elevator is in the process of being installed. At night workmen have been doing
electrical work in all of the classrooms.
Assistant Principal Screening Committee - 5 parents, 5 teachers and 1 administrator now
make-up the screening committee and should be having their initial meeting next week.
Joe Finnegan is leading this committee and applications that have already been received
show some promising candidates.
Blue Ribbon
The new Blue Ribbon committee has been hand picked by John Doherty and they will be
meeting on the early release day on March 17`h. There are several teachers that are
studying both our past application for Blue Ribbon and another schools Application.
Teachers are expected to make suggestions for improvement in the school and the manner
in which the Blue Ribbon questions are answered. John Doherty is going to be meeting
with parents on March 24t" to discuss the possibility of their input on the Community and
Parent section of the application.
Middle Level Education Month
There are several activities that are taking place this month at Coolidge to celebrate
Middle Level Education Month. Some noteworthy events are the OPEN HOUSE that is
all day on March 18th and the Mat.4t, and Science night on March 25`h. Their will be a
special guest by the name of Ramon Lopez from Washington DC who will be present that
evening.
School Performance Surveys
i
The recommendation was made that no 5d' grade parent should be filling out the parent
survey. Currently there are 2 dozen parent surveys that have been turned in. The student
survey is now complete and the Physical Education teachers will begin to have their
students complete this survey. The teacher surveys have all been turned in as well. Parent
and teacher surveys still need to be tallied.
Budeet Update
There is going to be a one million dollar budget cut for the school department. Everything
"new" that was in the proposed budget will be cut. This includes having an additional
custodian at Coolidge next year. Also there will be no staffing for the expected 6 h grade
expansion. It is still unsure whether the new 6th grade Foreign Language expansion will
take place. It is probably that any SPED positions will NOT be cut.
School Improvement Plan
The following areas were revised in the School Improvement Plan:
1. Facilities and Equipment
2. Meeting Diverse Learning Needs
3. Integration of Technology into the curriculum
The following areas will be revised at the next School Council meeting
4. Implementation of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks - this will be
easier once we have a clearer picture of what is happening with the budget
cuts.
5. Middle School Restructuring - we have a plan to add details and connect this
goal to the Blue Ribbon Application.
6. We have decided to DELETE the section regarding Guiding the Effectiveness
of Improvement efforts.
7. Professional Development will be the last section that we will revise.
