Meeting 1/11/94

Linda: Called the Meeting to order at 7:52 AM.
Handed out the revised Questionnaire
Proposed starting at the last 2 pages: Administration, Question 31
Paul: What are we trying to get at with this question?
Bob:
What was the intent of the original questionnaire?
Paul: The original questionnaire was from 1984 from a colleague of mine when
I was a new principal. What issues are we trying to address with this
question?
Karen: The original intent was to streamline the questionnaire.
Paul: The Birch Meadow survey is one page.
Linda: A lot of information takes a lot of time.
Joan: A lot of patents may not respond.
Jean: I think that we should remove Question 31 to Communications, move 31
to 25a.
Dora: Question 32 Safety?
Paul: What about the letter grade?
Karen: We should vote on whether it is in or out.
Don: Discussed consensus as being very time consuming we should move
faster.
The Voting on whether to include letter grade:
Jean - no
Dora - yes
Marina - no
Bob - yes
Joan - no
Don - yes
Paul - yes
Karen - yes
Linda - (did not record how Linda voted)
Karen: Dangerous to allow consensus rule to stifle debate.
Paul: Debate healthy.
Linda: Recommended a brief discussion of consensus, which ensued
discussion turned to Question 38.
Jean: Leave more space for an answer.
Linda: Go back to introductory letter.
Paul: Regarding the letter, we should add information about
1) The Education Reform Act
2) The School Implementation Plan Survey
3) The fact that parents' input is valued.
Then
Jean: We can use the Introduction to the Teachers survey.
Larry: Should add something about the mechanics of geatting the survey back.
Don: Can't touch teacher evaluations due to collective bargaining,
therefore strike #7.
Linda: Next meeting 1/18. Questionaire back to Paul Thursday AM.
Paul: Expressed the need to get the survey out now.
Joan: The Teacher Parent surveys should go out at the same time.
Jean: It won't matter to the teachers if the two surveys don't go out at the
same time.
Decided: The survey would be back to Paul on Thursday.
Don: Suggested that we meet at night.
Linda: Meeting adjourned at 8:55 AM.
