F j~'9'77PtOR4~~ School Council Meeting Monday, January 24, 2011 APPROVED Minutes Karen J. Callan Principal kcailan@reading.k12.ma.us I, Call to order: 3:35 PM Present: Karen Callan; Chairperson, Karesa.Encamacao, Sara Fenelly, Lauren Nigro, Absent: Michael Coelho, Laura Payack li. Minutes: Minutes from the November 15, 2010 were reviewed and accepted 111. Old Business: Budget a. Mrs. Fennelly review the Superintendent's budget proposal, explaining the three levels of the budget, the level service, the level funded and the -.5% budget. She encouraged the council members to attend the public forum. She will keep the council informed of progress on the budget, b, Mrs. Encarnacao inquired about the vandalism and the lighting out back. Mrs. Callan relayed that the lights had all been fixed and are working. They are dim because it is green lighting. She also relayed that the ball wall had, once again, been vandalized. It can't be fixed until the warmer weather. IV. Topics of Discussion: a. Friendship assembly - Mrs, Callan and Mrs. Encarnacao shared the recent assembly with the council. The third grade students presented the Lifeskill of Friendship to the students. A follow-up reading activity is taking place during January. b. Mrs. Callan shared that there were three new staff members replacing members out on leave, Also, Mrs, Leslie Scully has joined the DL,C program three days a week as a teacher. c. Dace to Nowhere film- Mrs. Callan discussed this upcoming film and encouraged the council to attend. The film will be showing at RMHS Fine and Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, January 25. d, Dr. Doherty's transition plan will be presented to the School Committee on Monday, February 28, 2011. V. New Business - a. Mrs. Callan discussed the guidelines for in/out door recess or before school. After meeting with the principals, it was determined that it is a building based decision based on safety, supervision and ability to stay outside. Three of the five schools have the same 20 degree guideline as to whether to go out or stay inside. b. April Sharing Conference- delay discussion until February A.
