HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-06-02 ad Hoc West Street Historic District Study Committee MinutesAd Hoc West Street Local Historic District Study Committee Minutes June 2003 at 6:30 pm Corner of Prescott and West Streets meeting recessed about 8:15 -and reconvened at 8:30 in the Town Hall Conference Room In Attendance: Jess Brallier Everett Blodgett Sally Hoyt Clayton Jones Sharlene Reynolds Santo Gail Wood Melissa Russell (Reading Advocate) Not in Attendance: Kristie Jochmann ➢ Clay reviewed goals o Define what is worth preserving to be compatible with the street o Define boundaries o Define length of street to be included o Review letter to residents of potential district ➢ Group came up with some ideas to articulate in the restriction and guidelines Clay to draft language. When defined should keep in mind reversibility. o Shutters - reversible o Fences - wish to avoid tunnel effect o Fire escapes - safety issue work with owner to hide or physically or atleast use materials compatible with house o Petroleum tank / AC units - hidden from streets view o Stonewall/Trees o Vinyl siding - not easily reversible, hides features o Replacement windows - can often be reversed, style changes questioned ➢ Boundaries changed to include 0 23 West St - corner of West/Fremont St. (due to a lower density of older homes after this point) 0 111 Scotland Road 0 3 Lewis 0 152 Oak St 0 6 Wentworth St o One and 4 Louanis Dr e Everett to research Indian Rock located in this area 0 3 Wescroft Road 0 98 Howard St 0 302 Woburn St o no houses on Prescott St are to be included Minutes from 19 May meeting where reviewed and accepted as amended. ➢ Next meeting scheduled for 9 June at 7 pm in front of 221 West St to be continued at Town Hall about 8:30.
