The meeting was called to order at 7.15 o'clock by the Chairman, The
records of the last meeting were read and approved.
The matter of clerical and other salaries was disci,.ssed at some length,
and the Clerk was requested to obtain- from the various depart,r?ents, a list
of the employees, showing the amount of salaries and wages received as of
February 1, 19~_0, noting any increase which had been granted during the
past year and if any increases were contemplated in 191j,_0; also stating the
number of hours employees were required to work.
lrs. Bangs, Chairrn-a.__ of the 111elfare Board, appeared and stated that
the Board would accept the recommendations of the Finance Committee and
endeavor to keep the 1'epartment expenditures within the appropriations re-
corTended. She staged that a great deal would depend on conditions which
no one at this time could foresee ® great-deal

the problems which confronted the 'r'elfare Board and answered several
questions put to her regarding the Depart ~ent.
The Board of Selectmen next appeared, Ch m. Goodridge, -Mr. Fowle and
Mr. Morton. The matter of Police salaries was take up also the matter of
the purchase of a Fire Truck and appropriation for OV. P. A. materials to
carry on in 1940.
The School Committee next a ppeared, Chm.. Tanner, Mrs. Twor~bly, {.irs
Clinch, Dr. 0vakeling, ,i1r. Austin and Supt. Grover. The Superintendent
presented the matter of transportation and called attention to four tenta-
tive arrangcarnents based on distance and number of pupils transported, and
figured on a varying cost per ride. The Superintendent stated that these
schedules were the result of careful study of the situation and stated
that Plan D seemed to meet with the greaiest favor provided the rate could
be obtained. Chin. Tanner called attention to the matter of appropriating
the balance of the Elementary School Loan concerning which an article would
appear in the warrant. ;2r. Tanner was questioned regara.ing the employing
of an assistant football coach about which there had been. considerable
comment, He explained that the Committee agreed that this was nezessary
and explained in some detail their reasons which were apparently acceptable.
in executive session it was voted to recommend $37,470.00 for Police
Department Salaries.
It was voted to recommend Plan D under the transportation schedule,
estimated cost P7924.3411..
It was voted to recommend appropriation of $30,000 for `va.P ®A® materials
the money to be borrowed over a period not to exceed five years.
it was voted to recommend +4750.00 for the Park Department
