The Board of Cemetery Trustees next appeared $ livhite ~

Nutter and Supt. BierDont. The budgets for the Cemeteries were presented,
calling for a appropriation from the tax levy of ~;8, 900.00 for L; 'urel Hill
Cemetery and 5;1900.00 for Forest Glen Cemetery and the recommendation that
4100.00 be transferred from the Cemetery Reserve Fred to Laurel Hill Cemetery.
The Library Trustees represented by Chat. Lyons nest appeared. The request
was for $5950.00 for Salaries and $3375.00 for Maintenance. The Salaries
appropriation increase was to provide for a P200.00 increase for the Librarian
and Assistant Librarian- also to provide for additional hours for other
assistants.
The Municipal Light Board represented by Chat. Johnson, and Supt. Sias,
next appeared on the budget for the right Department. Mr. Sias presented
a comprehensive statement of the Light Department. The estimated cost of
Street Lighting for 19) 0 was ';15,569,00 and the Board asked for an appropriatic
of ?15v5O0.00. It was shown that the Department estimated the return to the
Town. Treasurer to be t>26.,254.31, an increase of $2254.31 over 1939. Mr. Sias
answered several questions regarding the plans of the Department for 19LO.
In executive session it was voted that the Public a;iee ring be held on
Monday evening, February 19, 1940' and that the next regular meeting be held
on Monday y evening February 12th..
The following budgets were taken up and voted upon as follows:

The -police Salaries budget was next considered and after some discussion

It was voted to recommend for Salaries for the Fire Department
919,957,76; for 0. 0. Ordway pension x;;1300.00. It was voted to recommend
3,000,00 for Fire Alarm Extension. It was voted that a Committee of five
be appointed to investigate and report on the advisability of the purchase
of a ladder truck to replace udder #1, The Committee consists of the
Sub-committee on Selec amen a s Department and two other appointed by the
Chairman (Chairman appointed.. Messrs. Roberts and Tong).
The Public Welfare budgets were next considered, After a report by the
Chairman of the sub -committee, Mr. Goldsmith, the following votes were
passed,

The School Department budgets were then taken up and the follow'Lng
rotes were passed: It was voted to reconsider the vote of January 24th
and to recommend $178,337*58 for Supt, and Teachers Salaries. Voted
to reconsider the vote of January 24th Operation of.plant and to recommend
413$999,00, the original estimate. The matter of transportation was still
held open.
It was voted to recommend for Laurel Hill Cemetery the sum of 0,000,00
from the tax levy and that P900,00 be taken from the Cemetery Reserve. It
was voted to recommend 41500.00 for Forest Glen Cemetery. It was voted
to recommend 1300.00 for the care of the Town Forest,
It was voted to recommend $14,500-00 for Street Lighting, which was
41,000.00 less than the estimate submitted by the Light Department,
The Clerk was instructed to request the Board of Selectmen to be
present at the meeting February 12th for further conference particularly
on. police Department Salaries and W.P.A.
