HomeMy WebLinkAbout1939-08-25 Finance Committee MinutesMeeting of the Finance Committee August 25, 1939, The meeting was called to order by the Chairmah at 7,45 otclock, The records of the last meeting, June 14th, were read and declared approved. The Board of Public Works came before the Committee, Chairman Davis, Mr. Lindsay, Mr. Williamson and Supt. Welch. Mr. Davis presented the matters referred to in the letter to the Chairman of the Finance Com-mittee, dated August 19th, a copy of which is attached to and becomes a part of this report. Under Item A. the Chairman stated that the $1250*00 was needed to finance sidewalk work, one-half the cost of which was to be assessed to the abutters* Under Item B,, the Chairman stated that the Board felt that the curbing work should go forward and requested a transfer from the Reserve Fund for this purpose. Under Item Cp the Chairman stated that while this work was not absolute- ly necessary at this time, the work should be done in order to improve that section of Haven Street, Under Items D & E the Drainage Cormaittee reported regarding legislative action and urged that the acceptance of the Drainage Act so-called, be sub- mitted to the voters as early as possible, Chairman Davis also called attention to the fact that money -o for the townts share of Chapter 90 work could not be used as the 'State and County had failed to appropriate for this purpose* In executive session the matters submitted by the Board of Public Works were taken up and the following v otes were passed: Item A. A motion was made that $1250,00 be transferred from the Reserve Fund for granolithic sidewalks, This motion was not seconded, but it was voted that no transfer be made for the above purpose'. Item B. It was voted to authorize the transfer from the Reserve Fund of $550-00 for granite curbing, Item C. It was voted to authorize the transfer from the Reserve Fund of $1000.00 for work in connection with widening Haven Street at the new Municipal Light Plant. It was voted that no recommendation be made to the Assessors regardin $9000.00 appropriated at the annual town meeting for Chapter 90 work, Adjourned 9 P.M. Membdrs present: Chm.
