The meeting was called to order at 7;10 ofclock by the Chairman.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
It was voted to reconsider the votes of February lst on
Selectmens Expenses and Police Station Maintenance and it was
voted to recommend Selectmens Expenses $600 and Police Station
Maintenance $1400,
The appropriation for Police Department Salaries was discussed
at some length and it was voted to recommend the sum of 360000,
Police Department Salaries for 1039.
It was voted to instruct the Clerk to have an article inserted
in the warrant authorizing the Board of Public Welfare to employ a
Physician for Board of Welfare cases at a salary not to exceed
$1200 per year.
The Chairman read a letter from Mr. Martin B, Hartshorn which
was accompanied by a copy of a letter from Mr. Hartshorn to the
Chairman of the Light Board, Mr. Henry R. Johnson, regaid.ing rental
of building now occupied by the Light Department, The Clerk was
instructed to invite Mr, Hartshorn to be present on Wednesday evening,
March lst to confer with the Committee regarding the matter,
Mr, Robert S. Ralston, Chairman of the Board of Registrars
appeared regarding the salaries of Registrars and stated that the
lei. per year additional salary recommended by the committee at
the meeting February is t was fully inadequate as work of.the Board
had so greatly increased,
The Municipal Light Board, Chairman Johnson, Mr, Ellenwood,
Mr. Evans and Superintendent Sias appeared before the Committee
and presented the matter of extension of the underground system
within the area bounded by Haven and Lowell Streets and Sanborn
and Linden Streets. Also extension of High Street, of Woburn Street
to Lowell Street and on Lowell Street from High Street to Grove
Street. The cost was estimated at $36000, of which $15000, would
be labor and $21000, for material, Mr, Sias suggested that this
work be carried on as a W,P.A. project and $1-50€ 0. be borrowed for
the purchase of material. It was understood that'an article would
be placed in the warrant providing for this work.
The matter of the building for the Light Department was next
discussed, No vote was taken.
It was voted to reconsider the vote of January 23rd, Dental
Clinic, $500 and it was voted to recommend the sum of $650 for
1939.
The Board of Public Works next appeared . Members present;
Supt, Welch, Alexander Lindsay, Edward Brophy.

The following matters were t aken up and acted upon as follows:
Registrar's Salaries:
After some discussion it was voted that no further action be
taken and the vote of February l should stand.
Collector' of Taxes Salar=:
It was voted that no further action be taken and the vote of
January 23rd should stand,
Town Treasurer's Sal s : $1200, Expenses, $700 and Clerical $350,
re a otmend
Maturing It was voted to r& $53600 with the understanding
that the Storm Emergency Loan be refinanced if and when enabling
Legislature was enacted.
Insurance: $11979.08
Reht, American Le iota Quarters: One year at $1500, Would not
approve leasing for a five year period.
Dedication of World War Memorial: $200
Town Forest Development: $300
Land Court Expenses: $500
Noted not to recommend publication of valuation booklet,
expenses of which was estimated at $800.
An invitation from the Lions Club requesting that some member
of the Finance Committee attend a meeting on Thursday evening,
February 24th was read and it was voted that the Chairman attend
this meeting.
