HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-05-19 Sign Review Board MinutesMINUTES READING SIGN REVIEW BOARD SEP A regular meeting of the Sign Review Board was called1to order at 7:30 P.M. on May 19, 1994, in the Conference Room, Town Hall. All Board members were present except Leslie McGonagle. Also present, applying for sign permits, were Kenneth Latham, Jr. of Davis, Clark & Latham Insurance Agency, Cheryl Yennaco of Atlantic Awning Co., and Joseph Bucchiere of Newbury Bakery & Caffe. Discussion was held regarding the application, dated May 3, 1994, for Mr. Latham's sign. The application and information appearing to be in order and conforming to the By-Law, a motion was made by Jeanne Bastoni, seconded by Gerry Varney, and so voted, to approve the application. Joseph Bucchiere presented an application for an awning/sign for the Newbury Bakery and Caffe. A discussion ensued regarding whether the awning should be 10 feet from the ground as required in the By-Law or 8 feet which is more esthetically desirable. There was further discussion and questions asked. Wayne MacLeod made a motion and it was seconded, that the application be approved with the following conditions: 1. The awning will be extended to the right hand extent of the existing store front glass; 2. The applicant will seek and obtain permission from the Building Inspector to install the awning at 8 feet from the ground; 3. The lettering on the face of the awning shall not exceed 14" and will be limited to the Main Street face. The motion carried, 3 in favor, 1 opposed (Gerry Varney). After further discussion, another motion was made by Wayne MacLeod that the vote on the previous motion be reconsidered seconded, and by unanimous vote, the previous motion was passed. There was a discussion about getting the By-Law amended to require signs to be 8 feet above ground instead of 10 feet. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written.
