A regular meeting of the Sign Review Board was called1to
order at 7:30 P.M. on May 19, 1994, in the Conference Room,
Town Hall. All Board members were present except Leslie
McGonagle. Also present, applying for sign permits, were
Kenneth Latham, Jr. of Davis, Clark & Latham Insurance
Agency, Cheryl Yennaco of Atlantic Awning Co., and Joseph
Bucchiere of Newbury Bakery & Caffe.
Discussion was held regarding the application, dated May 3,
1994, for Mr. Latham's sign. The application and
information appearing to be in order and conforming to the
By-Law, a motion was made by Jeanne Bastoni, seconded by
Gerry Varney, and so voted, to approve the application.
Joseph Bucchiere presented an application for an awning/sign
for the Newbury Bakery and Caffe.
A discussion ensued regarding whether the awning should be
10 feet from the ground as required in the By-Law or 8 feet
which is more esthetically desirable. There was further
discussion and questions asked. Wayne MacLeod made a motion
and it was seconded, that the application be approved with
the following conditions:
1. The awning will be extended to the right hand extent of
the existing store front glass;
2. The applicant will seek and obtain permission from the
Building Inspector to install the awning at 8 feet from the
ground;
3. The lettering on the face of the awning shall not exceed
14" and will be limited to the Main Street face.
The motion carried, 3 in favor, 1 opposed (Gerry Varney).
After further discussion, another motion was made by Wayne
MacLeod that the vote on the previous motion be reconsidered
seconded, and by unanimous vote, the previous motion was
passed.
There was a discussion about getting the By-Law amended to
require signs to be 8 feet above ground instead of 10 feet.
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as
written.
On a motion, the meeting adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
The next meeting will be held on June 16, 1994, at 7:00 P.M.
