Present were Board members, Wayne MacLeod, Gerry Varney, Leslie McGonagle, and Jeanne Bastoni. Also present were Jonathan Edwards of CPDC who introduced the new Building Inspector, Glenn Redmond. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. There was discussion on the variance requested for the awning/sign proposed by the Newbury Caffe; i.e., that the awning be 8' from the ground instead of 10' as is presently required in the By-law. This request is before the Board of Appeals. Jonathan Edwards explained the procedure to have the By-law changed, e.g., the 8' vs 10' height requirement. A memo must be sent to the CPDC to explain the proposed modification. If acceptable by CPDC, it is referred to the Board of Selectmen. A public hearing will subsequently be held. It was suggested that another possible area for modification might specify how signs are to be maintained. There was a discussion on joint-signs where multiple businesses are housed, such as in an office building or in a cluster-type area. It was pointed out that July 1, 1994 marks the first date that "non-conforming signs shall be removed or altered so as to conform" with Section 6.2.2.3 of the Sign By-law. Mr. Edwards said that the CPDC would handle this. It was suggested that we may want to change our regular meeting night from the third to the second Thursday of the month. The Board of Appeals meets oA the third Thursdays, and there could conceivably be a conflict. A motion was made by Leslie McGonagle that no meeting be held during the month of July seconded and so voted. It was decided to invite Richard Batten of Batten Bros., Inc. sign company of Wakefield to the next meeting. The next meeting will be held on August 11, 1994, at 7900 P.M. Respectfully s itted Jeanne Bastoni, Secretary
