HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-10-25 School Council - Joshua Eaton Elementary MinutesStudent Advisory Council October 25, 2010 Joshua Eaton Elementary Conference Room 3;15-4;15 D U &; ai Members in Attendance: Karen Feeney, Leslie Raymond, Heather Tenney, Brian Snell, Jane Merrill, and Linda Lydecker • Review of minutes f rom September's meeting o Discussed School Improvement Plan and how our MCAS focus will be on improving Math scores o Karen will present MCAS results at the next PTO meeting. • Introduction of Dr. Doherty and his transition plan o Unfortunately Dr. Doherty had to cancel, but will attend the November SAC meeting. • Follow up questions o Members discussed various activities in progress concerning anti-bulling policy o An Anti-Bullying Committee is meeting with Patty deGaravilla. Their goal is to develop ways to educate students. o The Ooch program for the students was highly praised. Many noted that all students were actively involved. o Ooch's parent night also went well. Patty deGaravilla spoke about how Reading schools are moving forward and the kinds of information we need to send to the DOE/DESE. o A question was raised as to whether the parent session was taped by RCTV. Karen will look into it and share the days/times when it will be broadcast in the Jaguar Tracks. o We also discussed sponsoring a night for parents hopefully sometime in February. Suggested topics included: another Ooch parent presentation, child anxiety, Kim John Payne (author of Simplicity Parenting), and Hallowell (author of Childhood Roots of Adult Distraction). Karen will check with Patty deb. to see if there are any additional topics from last year's survey. o Brian noted that if we decide on bringing in an author, the Reading Public Library or the Friends of RPL may help share the costs. o Each member volunteered to look into one of the topics.
