Reading Solid Waste Advisory Committee
Minutes of meeting on 2/13/91

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM Lay E='eter"

King. Also in attendance was Susan Cohen, Michael Shannonj,
George Shannon and Debbie McCulley.
Peter handed out training packages containing information 01-1
responsibilities of participants in Town Government. He also
provided the Committee wth information received <sat.: the last Mass
Municipal meeting, on backyard composting. f et:er° gave" the
Committee the nomination form for the EPA Administrator's Award
Program. He also urged the Committee to consider the trash fee
issue, i.e. feasibility, equitable .4 i'fti:;f letTie::`f"s 'L. a't:'. 7. (:ir'i e't'. i.;, n
Peter responded to several questions from Committee members. Most
of theme questions related to the trash removal budget figures.
One issue which arose during the discussion was how to increase
the demand for the end product of leaf composting.
ELECTION OF CHAIR/VIC[i~~
Anne Mark was nominated Chairperson. There were no other
nominations. The Committee voted unanimously for Annear Mtiar°I::. T'r"i sssh'+
Brigham was nominated Vice-Chairperson. There were no other
nominations. The Committee voted unanimously for Trish Brighami,

Mike Shannon informed the Committee t:I°itot March 1991 will he the

Ju!"teS' 1991. Mike requested volunteers from 't:.h'Pec: Committee to
attend . .'t::h•ie collection on 2/23 to observe set-up and clean-up as
well as to inspect the incoming plastic. Anne, Trish riftnd Susan
volunteered. Mike suggested that this process be repeated in

in light of the M50/month's c:har'ge'rec;:ent::.ly introduced by Bill
Currier. This charge will be - paid out of the DPW budget.

Block Leader. S a l l y nominated David Williams fra r° his assistance

vote. David Williams will be considered for April.
CURBSIDE RECYCLING
The Committee discussed various issues related to the

Participation Survey, including who, when, wt'3t:::r.e, etc. Alfter"

Debbie expressed concern that white paper recycling was rEot as {:s

Trish reported that participation in the Christmas tree recycling
program was worse than last year ('f'ewer"' than 37 trees).
Linda King is personally interested in reducing junk mail :i. r1

would be interested in supporting an Eagle Scout: project aimed at
junk mail reduction. The Committee responded that they would

Committee and suggested the supermarket as s al possible recipient
of the Recycler° of the Month Award.
