HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-08-14 Council on Aging Minutescouncil on Aging Board Meeting Reading Public Library 64 Middlesex Avenue August 14, 1989 Present: Lois Bond, Gladys Cail, Ruth Cogan, Frank Day, Dorothy Foxon, Diane Guilfoyle, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Fred Perry-Patrons, Loretta Spaulding This special call meeting was convened by Chairperson Gladys Cail at 6:35 P.M. New Business - letter of resignation was received from Irving Stackpole to Russell Graham of the Board of Selectmen - application received from Virginia Bizzaro for position on Board of Directors for Elder Services - she will be interviewed at the Board of Selectmen's meeting tomorrow night. Budget for FY190 was updated by Ruth Cogan, Director of Human Services Department. Reading will be short $850,000 for FY 190. Municipal side will take 60% of cut. School Department will take 40% of cut. The final budget presented at Town Meeting on September 14 will be $390,000 or $172,000 depending upon initiation of a trash collec- tion fee. Elder Services proposed cuts of $1750 would eliminate the produc- tion of the annual Elderberries and $100 from the recreation line. The elimination of van overtime is being handled by crea- tive scheduling. Discussion ensued on ways to raise revenues through increased fees and/or through creative financing of programs and services. On the Board, Above the Board, By the Board training meeting will be held Thursday, September 28 at 7:30 P.M. All Board Members are encouraged to attend. Ruth went over open Meeting law. Whenever a quorum will be present the meeting must be posted 48 hours in advance. Old Business Picnic at Peter Sanborn on Wednesday at 6:_00 P.M. Patrons for Older Adults contributed $200 for picnic expenses.
