HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-09-18 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil on Aging Board Meeting Senior Center - Pearl Street School September 18, 1989 Present: Mary Andreola, Virginia Bizzaro, Lois Bond, Gladys Cail, Frank Day, Dorothy Foxon, Ginny Lane, Fred Perry-Patrons, Loretta Spaulding Absent: Diane Guilfoyle, Linda Nordberg Meeting was called to order at 5:31 P.M. by Chairperson Gladys Cail at the Senior Center, Pearl Street School. Minutes of the July and August meetings were accepted on a motion by Ginny Lane and seconded by Mary Andreola. 7-0-0. Treasurerls Report - none Director's Report Shopper's Assistance Grant was rewritten and resubmitted. MVES set up a crisis stabilization fund making available to the Coun- cils up to $3000 specifically for positions where salary is being threatened. We should know by end of September if grant has been approved for next round. Auto Repair - By the time the next repair bill is received we will have spent close to the limit for the year. FY 189 Statistics were gone over. Old Business Fix-it and Knitting groups are going well. Tea Dance Committee Fred Perry reported meeting went well. The first Tea Dance will be Thursday, October 19, from 2:00 4:00 P.M. at Peter Sanborn. It was voted 7-0-0 on a motion by Loretta Spaulding and seconded by Frank Day that the $1.00 dona- tion be maintained and rescind $1.50 as mentioned in July minutes. Peter Sanborn has agreed that the tea dances can be held there on the third Thursday of each month. Page 2 September 18,, 1989 Van Committee Update - Ginny Lane reported Russell Thatcher of Mass. Department of Transportation said there's a federal grant called Mobility Assistance Program Grant which can take up to a year and a half to get. Frank Day spoke with Mrs. O'Leary of North Reading about the van they have. They use Action Ambulance Co. for clients requiring a chairlift/handicap accessible van. It was voted 7-0-0 on a motion by Ginny Lane and seconded by Virginia Bizzaro that a kick-off write-up be put in newspapers mentioning Patrons' $ 5,000 donation towards purchase of new van and that we are seeking further donations. Location Committee Update - Leasing fraternal buildings is not reasonable solution for relocation of Senior Center. Surplus Food Distribution - The main drop point will be at the Senior Center this Thursday, September 21, 1989 from 1:00 to 3:30 P.M. New Business Class registration is coming along fine. It was voted 7-0-0 on a motion by Loretta Spaulding and seconded by Mary Andreola that the fee schedule be $1.25 at the door per class and the pay-in- advance fee amounts to $1.00 per class. Mystic Valley Elder Services Election It was voted 7-0-0 on a motion by Dorothy Foxon and seconded by Loretta Spaulding that Doris Fantasia be reappointed to the Mys- tic Valley Board of Directors for a three (3) year term to expire September 30, 1992 The Board of Health will charge $3.00 for a flu shot. A voucher will be issued to those elders who can't afford to pay. A letter was received from Amy Lassman of Somerset Adult Day Service to announce its opening on September 18, 1989 and also to explore the use of our COA van for their day care participants.
