HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-05-22 Council on Aging Minutesp' Council on Aging Board Meeting Arnold Berger Room - 16 Lowell Street May 22, 1990 Present: Mary Andreola, Virginia Bizzarro, Lois Bond, Frank Day Dorothy Foxon, Diane Guilfoyle, Loretta Spaulding Absent: Gladys Cail, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg Meeting was called to order at 5:37 P.M. by Loretta Spaulding, Vice Chair, in the Arnold Berger Room, 16 Lowell Street. Minutes of the April meeting were accepted on a motion by Dorothy Foxon and seconded by Diane Guilfoyle. 6-0-0 Financial Report The Financial Report was moved by Virginia Bizzarro and seconded by Mary Andreola to be accepted. 6-0-0 Director's Report The Director's Report was moved by Diane Guilfoyle and seconded by Frank Day to be accepted. 6-0-0 Old Business Nominating Committee reported that Ginny Lane would be contacted regarding accepting the office of Chairperson Loretta Spaulding has agreed to be reappointed as Vice Chair and Dorothy Foxon will serve as Secretary/Treasurer if elected. New Business 3 substitute van drivers have been filling in while the"reg- ular van driver, Florence Farelli, has been on vacation Ginny Lane has asked to be considered for reappointment Marie Patterson, Meals-on-Wheels Coordinator, suggested to Lee Roberts, Coordinator of Volunteers, that a Meals-on- Wheels packet be sent to Bob McCarthy of Mystic Valley Elder Services outlining the experiences the 5th grade Barrow Stu- dents had delivering meals on wheels - Reading Elder Services intern, Meghan Griesmer, completes s her program at the end of May with the department 1 r" Board members agreed to assist at the Annual Picnic on May 30 Board members agreed to provide refreshments for the October Tea Dance An article appearing in the SUBURBAN NEWS entitled "Mystic Valley Partners Program" was brought to the attention of the Board regarding enlisting getting volunteers to help senior citizens Phyllis Nissen put an article in the READING CHRONICLE on the "It's Good to Care" program Reading Women's Club Literature Committee gave us $50.00 towards the shopping program Bette Pack is resigning at the end of June as outreach Worker Phil Doyle from the Reading Fire Department will be cont- acted to see if he will teach the Heimlich manoeuvre to mealsite helpers. Council on Aging Board Members will also be encouraged to attend Council on Aging Board Meetings will commence at 6:30 PM beginning in June pending clearance from the scheduling of- fice - motion was moved by Dorothy Foxon and seconded by Diane Guilfoyle. 6-0-0 It was moved by Mary Andreola and seconded by Diane Guil- Foyle that Council on Aging will not have a board meeting in August. 6-0-0 Thanksgiving Dinner ideas were discussed briefly summer schedule - discussion was had on the feasibility of having an ice cream social and block party due to financial cutbacks Meeting was adjourned at 7:21 PM which was moved by Diane Guil- foyle and seconded by Virginia Bizzarro. 6-0-0 Respectfully submitted by: 14 ~ 5)x, 3 ZC. ~ Z Lois K.
