~i Zarrow.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30. The January minutes were unanimously approved with one revision.

At the time of our meeting, Bob had not received further information about collecting and recycling rechargeable
batteries.
Bob noted that the NSRRC meeting had been canceled on January 12. He and Anne plan to attend the February 9th
meeting in Marblehead.
Anne added an article to the library circulation box from The New York Times provided by Linda King. She will
also add a more recent article that responds to the Times piece. Sally will add information about PRINS to the
circulation box.
Mike stated that his department has no information yet on the status of the trash collection and disposal contracts,
but noted it should be available within three weeks. Bob will follow-up with Ruth Clay or Ted McIntire on the
status of the grant applications for compost bins and educational materials.
opics of articles for future issues of Reading Notes were discussed. Bob's article about recycling appeared in the
January issue. The February issue is dedicated to the Annual Report, so we will not be submitting an article.
Martha will write an article for March about recycling nickel cadmium batteries. Sally will contact Peter
Hechenbleikner about his interest in preparing something for the April Reading Notes to coincide with Earth Day.
She will ask him to summarize, for the general population, the piece he's writing for the Selectmen about Reading's
water supply and the status of Reading's environment. Lynda will work on an article for the May issue.
Martha will contact Ted McIntire for a contact person at Waste Management to obtain a bid for collecting white
paper from Town offices.
Anne will call the statewide RECYCLE hotline to check the accuracy of information about Reading, and will
determine how to correct any inaccuracies she may find.
Proposed activities for Earth Day were discussed. Anne will call the Eaton and Barrows schools, Martha will
contact all others, to determine what activities they have planned. Bob suggested demonstrating and selling
composters at the Town's compost site. This may be dependent upon the status of our grant application.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
