HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-01-16 Birch Meadow Traffic Task Force Minutesa BIRCHMEADOW TRAFFIC TASK FORCE The Birchmeadow traffic task force had its first meeting on January 16, 1992 7:30 in the employee lounge at.Reading Town Hall. i xri'attendance at the meeting were task force appointees Dan Ensminger, Al LaHood, Kevin Moran, Steve Smith, Tom Stoleman and Bill Warren. The task force members voted Dan Ensminger to chair the meetings. Meetings will take place twice a month. With everyones schedules being what they are, Mondays were deemed to be the best nights for now. The next two meetings are Feb. 3 and ( tentative ) Feb. 17. Dan Ensminger passed out a copy of the selectman's charge to the task force. The task force defined the birchmeadow area to be looked at to include the area south of Forrest st., east of Grove St., north of Lowell st. and west of Main st. A general discussion took place regarding traffic, parking and safety. Kevin Moran cited high traffic volumes on Birchmeadow and John Carver. Bill Warren discussed parking problems on Bancroft. Steve Smith cited speeding on Forrest Street. Some data already exists from the McDonough & Scully survey as well as some traffic counts. All agreed that more data needed to be collec- ted. Tom Stoleman suggested that major "valve" streets be identified and measured to determine overall traffic volume patterns. Some suggestions included setting up traffic counters and interviewing commuters. A sub-committee made up of Kevin Moran, Steve Smith and Bill Warren was asked meet offline to to determine methods of measuring and sampling traffic .umes and patterns. Dan Ensminger will contact Tony Fletcher to see how many traffic counters can be made available. Next meeting will be Feb. 3, 1992. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15. A
