This was a site visit of the Reading schools
so to familiarise those concerned as to the condition of
the schools. Those listed above met at 8:30AM at the
Alice M Barrows school. Were we found extensive termite
damage and a outdated heating system.
Next we went to the PARSER JR HIGH SCHOOL. Mere
we observed a vent system not working, a gymnasium floor
buckling= and a locker room ceiling in the process of
'-coming down. There are many windows in need of repair.
The lockers in the hallways need new doors or new lockers.
The plumbing in the lavatories is in bad condition.
The science labs are obsolete. There is a need for more
electrical outlets and what fixtures are there should be
,replaced. There is a need to update the computer systems
in the class rooms. The cafeteria being on the third floor
is not an ideal situation.
Next on the tour was the Joshua Eaton school.
Here we witnessed lunch being served in the gym while h
gym class was in progress. Lack of space is a real problem
at this school.
The Birch Meadow elementary school also has a
space problem . There are no storage areas. There is also
a need for additional coat racks in the corridors.
Last stop of the day was the Coolidge Middle
School. The paint on the ceiling of this building is
pealing and falling to the floor. The entire ceiling has
to be scraped and repainted. One again as in the other
schools space is a problem. No room for storage.
We adjourned at 1:30PM.
Respectfully Submitted
