HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-10-15 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil on Aging Board Meeting Arnold Berger Room - 16 Lowell Street October 15, 1990 Present: Mary Andreola, Lois Bond, Gladys Cail, Frank Day, Dorothy Foxon, Diane Guilfoyle, Eva Hakanson, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Loretta Spaulding Absent: Virginia Bizzarro Meeting was called to order at 6:33 P.M. by Chairperson, Ginny Lane, in the Arnold Berger Room, 16 Lowell Street. Minutes of the September meeting were accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Diane Guilfoyle. 9-0-0 Financial Report The Financial Reports for August and September was moved by Loretta Spaulding and seconded by Gladys Cail to be accepted. 9-0-0. Director's Report The Director's Report was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Mary Andreola to be accepted. 9-0-0. - Elder Services is waiting to hear from one or two students from Reading High School to see if they will be interested in part- icipating in the intern program - A 13 week program on Channel 3, entitled, "A House Warming", dealing with energy saving tips, will be at 8:00 PM, starting on October 27. Old Business - No Report New Business - Discussion of proposed increase in van fees resulted in sug- gested round trip fee schedule: $.50 lunch; $1.00 local shopping and medical appointments; $2.00 Redstone/Woburn Malls; $4.00 North Shore/Burlington Malls; $1.00 class and Elder Service events. Information and reflections to be shared at the November meeting. 1 Council on Aging Board Meeting Arnold Berger Room - 16 Lowell Street October 15, 1990 New Business (cont'd) - New van event to be "low key": picture with caption thanking friends; no list of names; people gave not for self aggrandize- ment but for quality of need. - Thanksgiving dinner to be November 17, noon time, served by volunteers, free will offering to benefit fuel assistance program. Other Business Board Members providing refreshments for October 18 Tea Dance. Hatch Act review inhibits municipal employees from political action on employer's time and space. Additional information forthcoming from Town Council. - Surplus Food will be distributed from Masonic Hall on November 15. - FY 192 budget process begun with first round requiring 3.2% cut from last year's budget. Discussion of purpose yielded two groups of priorities: Group A• Outreach Referral Meal Site Meals on Wheels Advocacy Education/information Shopping Intergenerational activities/services Transportation: Medical, Meal Site, Banking, Nursing Group B: Social Visits - out of the home Intergenerational programs Out-of-town transportation It was acknowledged that many services cross generation lines.
