HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-02-10 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING ARNOLD BERGER ROOM - 16 LOWELL STREET FEBRUARY 10, 1992 Present: Mary Andreola, Virginia Bizzarro, Eva Hakanson, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Loretta Spaulding, Irving Stackpole, Lois Bond, George Richards - Patrons representative Members of the Senior Center Advisory Committee: Bill Dris- coll, Byran Hodgkins, George Richards Guest: Michael Terry Absent: Gladys Cail, Leonard Dergay; Dot Foxon Meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Chairperson Ginny Lane in the Berger Conference Room. Minutes of the January 13, 1992, and January 27, 1992, meeting were accepted on a motion by Irving Stackpole, and seconded by Mary Andreola. 6-0-0 Financial report was moved by Virginia Bizzarro and seconded by Eva Hakanson. 6-0-0. The shortfall in the Outreach Worker's salary line and the proposed resolution were discussed. Director's Report was moved to be accepted as presented by Irving Stackpole and seconded by Loretta Spaulding. 7-0-0. An overview of statistics from 1991 will be shared at the next meeting. Old Business Mary Andreola presented reflection on information about Friends groups from surrounding communities. Concern was expressed about the amount of input Councils have regarding funding expenditures. Linda Nordberg discussed the Winchester Hospital Friends model utilizing volunteer and fund raising functions. Information will be gleaned from Reading Public Library, Reading Recreation and Patrons for Older Adults. Irving Stackpole moved and it was seconded by Eva Hakanson that the Council aggressively pursue information about a separately established Friends group to gather revenues to support Reading Elder Services, and that a committee be established to explore organizational issues and financial matters. Nordberg, Andreola and Richards are on the committee. New Business The Senior Center Advisory Committee joined the Council on Aging at 7:30. The Committee's function was discussed as outlined by the Board of Selectmen enabling policy. Mr. Stackpole reviewed the Advisory Committee's role asĀ°one of consensus, recommendation and review. Senior Center Site Selection materials will be shared with the Advisory Committee. Visits to other Centers will glean ideas. The Director will meet with the Patrons for Older Adults on Wednesday, February 12, 1992, to solicit ideas for replicating programs and/or solicit new ideas. The Cracker Barrel, moved among the three housing complexes, will broaden senior citizen participation. Comments for consideration by the Committee in- cluded: acoustics, parking, a stage, folding tables and storage. Irving Stackpole moved and Eva Hakanson seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:40 p.m. Respectfully submitted by:S' Lois K. Bond Director, Elder Services
