Irving Stackpole, Chair of the Senior Center Advisory Committee,
reviewed the elevation renderings from Catlin and Associates
noting the following:
West Elevation: insert of new bay doors with an exit door to the
.:__J patio; Reading Historical Commission's concern with the amount of
glass in the doors
North Elevation: new windows replicating the one original window
on the North side
East Elevation: means of emergency egress
South Elevation: potential garden area
Loretta Spaulding spoke of the perception among some seniors that
the design of the new center is not sensitive to their needs,
specifically the lack of bathrooms on the first floor. An intense
discussion followed centering on the national building code re-
quiring the installation of two handicapped bathrooms, the amount
of floor space used by the installation of bathrooms, the program
impact with a smaller meeting space in the multipurpose room, and
how the Advisory Committee reached their decision. Mr. Stackpole
said he would again bring the issue before the Advisory Committee
and the project managers.
The Board of Selectmen will endorse a proclamation honoring the
Elder Services volunteers on April 14. The proclamation will be
read at the Volunteer Reception on May 13.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. on a motion by Virginia
Bizzarro and seconded by Gladys Cail.
