HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-05-11 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING MEETING MAY 11, 1992 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Virginia Bizzarro, Gladys Cail, Leonard Dergay, Dorothy Foxon, Linda Nordberg, Ginny Lane, Lois Bond The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairperson Ginny Lane. Minutes of the April meeting were accepted on a motion by Linda Nordberg and seconded by Virginia Bizzarro.7-0-0 The Financial Report was accepted on a motion by,Gladys Cail and seconded by Mary Andreola. 7-0-0 Following a discussion of the Shopping Assistance program, it was determined to review the program in six months to explore addi- tional budget sources. The Director's Report was accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Dot Foxon. 7-0-0 The council reviewed the Senior Center Advisory Committee's ac- tion following the last board meeting's questions surrounding code issues and the new building's floor plan. - Ms Andreola and Ms Foxon reported on the Interior Design Working Group activity. Committee members visited senior centers in Dan- vers, Winchester and Peabody. The memorable features of each cen- ter was presented and evaluated in light of the Reading project. Chair design, window treatment and preliminary color selections were shared with the Council. Ms Bond indicated 30 bids were received to date for the general contractor. The bids will be opened on Friday. The Volunteer Reception will be held at the Pearl Street Senior Center on May 13. Ms Roberts, Coordinator of Volunteers, is plan- ning the event and receiving fine cooperation from organizations and individuals who are assisting with this event. The following members have been appointed to the Nominating Com- mittee and will report to the June meeting: Eva Hakanson, Chair, Dot Foxon, Irving Stackpole. The budget will be presented at the Spring Town Meeting on May 18. No changes from the floor are anticipated. Mr. Richards, Patrons for Older Adults representative, said the Patrons will be making a presentation of $4000.00 for use in the new Senior Center. It was determined the "check" would be presented during a Board of Selectmen's meeting.
