HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-06-08 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING MEETING JUNE 8, 1992 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Leonard Dergay, Dorothy Foxon, Ginny Lane, Eva Hakanson, Linda Nordberg, Irving Stackpole, Lois Bond The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by chairperson Ginny Lane. Minutes of the May meeting were accepted as amended on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Dot Foxon. 8-0-0 The Financial Report was accepted on a motion by Irving Stackpole and seconded by Eva Hakanson. Noted was a Spring Town Meeting transfer of funds to cover the salary of the Outreach Worker through the close of the fiscal year. The Director's Report was accepted on a motion by Dot Foxon and seconded by Linda Nordberg. The Council was informed that the General Contractor for the Senior Center will be P & H Contractors from Everett. They will begin work immediately. The Performance Bonus application has been filed. These funds will be necessary to complete the project. The Council learned that no grant money can be used to purchase furniture for the new Center. The Director was asked to explore second hand furniture sources. There was expressed a need to develop a fund raising strategy to address this issue. Developing a relationship with the Patrons for Older Adults was discussed. Liaison reports from the Patrons representative to the COA will be requested. The Bylaw Committee suggested that the Quorum section be revised to state a simple majority (6). Ms Nordberg will check the lan- guage with her source. The Nominating Committee's slate of officers for the new year was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Linda Nordberg. 8-0-0 The officers are as follows: Chairperson: Irving Stackpole vice chairperson: Mary Andreola Secretary/Treasurer: Dot Foxon Outgoing Chairperson Ginny Lane expressed thanks for the privilege of serving the Council.
