HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-08-17 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING AUGUST 17, 1992 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING, MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Dorothy Foxon, Ginny Lane, Eva Hakanson, Linda Nordberg, Loretta spaulding, Irving Stackpole, Lois Bond The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Chairperson Ir- ving Stackpole. The minutes of the June meting were accepted as amended on a mo- tion by Ginny Land and seconded by Eva Kakanson. 8-0-0 Financial Report: Copies were not available. The Director's Report was accepted as amended on a motion by Eva Hakanson and seconded by Ginny Lane. 8-0-0 The Council discussed the Senior Center Advisory Committee's mo- tion presented to the Board of Selectmen. Gladys Cail then moved and Dot Foxon seconded the following motion: "The Council on Aging supports the Senior Center Advisory Com- mittee vote of August 13, 1992. The Council will take an active role to monitor the use of the Senior Center once occupied to determine the need for a toilet on the first floor, and may recommend at any time that the Board of Selectmen proceed with the construction of said toilet". Voted 7-0-1. Fund Raising Plan: The following people have agreed to develop a fund raising plan for furnishings at the new Senior Center: Mary Andreola, Ginny Lane, and Irving Stackpole. Mary Andreola expressed concern that we may be able to move past this contentious stage and proceed with a more positive outlook so the furniture fund raising can be successful. M.V.E.S. Appointment: The Council interviewed three candidates before voting unani- mously to appoint Doris Fantasia to represent the Reading Council on Aging on M.V.E.S. Board of Directors for a three-year term, ending September 30, 1995. Council on Aging Meeting August 17, 1992 Page 2 Liaison Reborts: Golden Agers President Loretta Spaulding reported that they have 30 - 35 members who meet monthly on Wednesdays at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Gladys Cail, Tannerville Club, reported that they will be elect- ing a new President at their September meeting. They meet on the 2nd Wednesday each month at Tannerville, except July and August. Council agreed the Nominating Committee will be appointed and given their mandates at the April meeting in preparation for an- nual election meeting to be held in June.
