HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-11-17 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING MEETING NOVEMBER 17, 1992 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Leonard Dergay, Dorothy Foxon, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Eva Hakanson, Loretta Spaulding, Sal Mele, Lois Bond Mrs. Dergay, Paul Fermano The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Mary Andreola in the Berger Room. Minutes of the October 19, 1992, meeting were accepted as amended on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Linda Nordberg. 9-0-0 The Financial report was moved by Eva Hakanson and seconded by Gladys Cail. 9-0-0 The Director's Report was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Ginny Lane. 9-0-0 Paul Fermano, Clerk of the Works, gave an update of the new Senior Center reporting that the exterior is being painted, sidewalks and ramps are almost completed, interior plastering, painting, millwork and flooring will be addressed when three- phase power is brought to the building. Historical Commission will be consulted regarding free standing flagpole. Name for in- tersection was discussed. Twenty-four plated dinners from Harrow's and the Rotary Club, and 50 Thanksgiving "baskets" from the Lion's Club and individuals from the community will be distributed the day before Thanksgiv- ing. The new van driver is being well received. Mary Andreola reported the Bake Sale, spearheaded by the Cracker Barrel participants, earned $117.15 for the furnishings fund. Participants did a wonderful job and were proud of their efforts. Ms. Andreola discussed the Pride Stride walk and possible col- laboration with another group next year. COA received $64.00. Thirteen groups produced 150-170 walkers and the administrative costs were approximately 40%. Linda Nordberg proposed and Ginny Lane will draft a direct mail fund raising letter for the first week of December. A list of needed items to be purchased will be developed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. on a motion by Eva Hakan- son and seconded by Linda Nordberg. 8-0-0 Respectfully submitted, Lois K. Bond
