HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-12-14 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING MEETING December 14, 1992 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Dorothy Foxon, Ginny Lane, Eva Hakanson, Loretta Spaulding, Sal Mele, Irving Stackpole Lois Bond Guests: Doris Fantasia, Henry Murphy, Absent: Leonard Dergay, Linda Nordberg (ill) The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairperson Ir- ving Stackpole in the Berger Room. Minutes of the November 17, 1992, meeting were accepted as amended on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Ginny Lane 8-0-0 The Financial report was accepted as moved by Ginny Lane and seconded by Gladys Cail. 8-0-0 The Director's Report was accepted as amended on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Eva Hakanson 8-0-0 A discussion of the latest revision of the old bylaws produced the following motion by Ginny Lane and seconded by Eva Hakanson to delete Article I Section 6. 8-0-0. The January meeting will finalize our work and send the material forward for review. Doris Fantasia, President of Mystic Valley Elder Services Board of Directors, reviewed the function of the State Home Care Cor- poration and the federal programs for the elderly. She referenced the assisted living program which is a transitional level of care between living at home and moving to a nursing home. She en- couraged local communities to become active in the legislative process. Lois Bond reported that the Senior Center Advisory Committee walked through the project Dec. 5. The second floor is plastered and painting will soon begin. Sal Mele was concerned the latest letter to the editor was harm- ful and interfering with the project. Mary Andreola reported on the good response of the "Road Show" at Peter Sanborn Place. (The Road Show includes the Channel 3 video, memorabilia from the old fire station, architectural drawings and a question and answer period.) Mrs. Spaulding asked to be excused at 8:00 p.m. Henry Murphy, president of Patrons for Older Adults, discussed the level of cooperation possible between the Patrons and the COA. The two organizations have shared purposes and augment each Page 2 - Dec.14, 1992 others efforts. Mr Murphy is willing to explore fund raising ef- forts that will enhance the membership of the Patrons and enhance the ability of the COA to raise funds for senior programming and services. After discussion, it was requested that the minutes reflect when people arrive and leave as it will affect the voting record.
