HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-08-09 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING AUGUST 9, 1993 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING, MA 01867-2684 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Len Dergay, Dot Foxon, Ginny Lane, Sal Mele, Lois Bond Absent: Linda Nordberg and Eva Hakanson excused, Claire Brown Guest: Whitney Goetz 4- The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Ginny Lane. Minutes of the June 14, 1993 meeting were accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Sal Mele. 6-0-0 The financial report was deferred. Director's report was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Mary Andreola. 6-0-0 Mary Andreola, Sal Mele and Dot Foxon will review door security issues at Tannerville and report back to the Council. Whitney Goetz, Outreach Worker, outlined her work respon- sibilities and discussed the upcoming Alzheimer Workshop she is planning for the Fall. A three part seminar will include a medi- cal doctor, a nurse specializing in behavior modification and a lawyer. Council member suggested marketing ideas for distributing information about the Alzheimer workshops and also services for Reading's older population. Goetz also discussed the Wanderers program for registering Alzheimer patients. Len Dergay left the meeting. Senior Center questions were reviewed including: 1.) flag pole: restore or remove; 2.) signage: possible sign on pole at corner of Main and Pleasant similar to sign indicating Police Depart- ment; 3.) sidewalk crossing: elder crossing sign at brow of Pleasant Street? Parking at the Senior Center was discussed with several suggest- ions focusing on striping streets and parking lots. Landscape credits for Eric's Greenhouse contributions will appear in the paper. Suggestions were made regarding the Program Council that in- dividuals from various activities be asked to participate on this committee. Adult Day Care committee will visit Lynn and then be ready to present their overview of Adult Day Care centers in this region. Glayds Cail, Lois Bond and Henry Murphy will meet to explore relationships with the Patrons regarding a Friends group. Liaison assisgnments were postponed until the September meeting. The Board of Selectmen°s directive for an annual assessment of the floor plans was reviewed and discussed. Participation at the Senior Center was discussed, as was a survey to determine needs and interests. Meeting was adjourned at 8:30. Respectfully submitted, Lois K. Bond
