HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-09-13 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING SEPTEMBER 13, 1993 BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING, MA 01867-2684 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Mary Mundjer, Linda Nordberg, Eva Hakanson, Ginny Lane, Sal Mele, Lois Bond Absent: Len Dergay and Dot Foxon excused The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Ginny Lane. Mary Mundjer was introduced as the newest Council member. A let- ter of resignation from Irving Stackpole was read. Appreciation was expressed for his leadership. Following discussion Sal Mele moved and Mary Andreola seconded that Ginny Lane become Chairperson, 7-0-0, and Linda Nordberg will serve as temporary vice chairperson. Gladys Cail and Mary Andreola as a Nominating Committee will present a vice chairper- son candidate at the next meeting. Minutes of the August 9, 1993 meeting were accepted as amended on a motion by Eva Hakanson and seconded by Sal Mele. 7-0-0 Gladys Cail moved, Sal Mele seconded the financial report.7-0-0. The van schedule and the wooden block and toy project were dis- cussed. Gladys Cail and Lois Bond will meet with Henry Murphy. Director's report was moved by Sal Mele and seconded by Mary Andreola. 7-0-0 Mary Andreola met with the Outreach Worker to discuss the effort of the adult day task force. Lynn's Aging Connections is an im- pressive program. The question being explored is does No. An- dover, Woburn, Melrose and Lynn programs fill the needs of Read- ing residents. The Council asked that Dot Foxon, Sal Mele, and Mary Andreola meet with the Reading Housing Authority to discuss safety issues at Tannerville. The Mission Statement was reviewed. Ascertaining needs may be determined through educational and informational events which may bring people into the system for social events. That contact with the elder may lead to the identification of further health issues requiring assistance. Eva Hakanson and Mary Mundjer will explore a needs assessment addressing the mission statement. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Eva Hakanson. 7-0-0.
