HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-08-08 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING AUGUST 8, 1994 TOWN HALL BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING, MA 01867-2684 Present: Andreola, Cail, Dergay, Hakanson, Mele, Mundjer, Nordberg, Trainor, Bond Excused: Foxon, Lane The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Vice-Chairperson Gladys Cail.. Minutes of the June 13, 1994, meeting were moved by Eva Hakanson and seconded by Mary Andreola. 7-0-0 Sandra Trainor arrived. Financial report was moved by Mary Andreola and seconded by Mary Mundjer. 8-0-0 Director's report was moved by Sandy Trainor and seconded by Eva Hakanson. 8-0-0 The strawberry shortcake festival at Summerfest was reviewed. There was considerable discussion about the Fall class schedule. The members discussed if and how scholarships could be offered. An idea to be explored is requesting instructors to enable one student to attend class gratis. An overview of class costs will be presented at the September meeting. The Senior Center survey was reviewed. 2134 surveys were mailed with a 14% return. Points discussed included: many people not coming to the Center because they are "too busy" or still working; 91% of the people who responded to the question did not have a problem with the location of the bathrooms; one person summed up other comments by stating: "Parking is probably the major weakness"; many people wanted information but neglected to give their name or phone number. Sandra Trainor moved and Sal Mele seconded a motion that the report to the Board of Selectmen reflect data collected up until August 8, 1994, the time of the Selectmen's meeting. 6-1-1 Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, 4-S At~~ Lois K.
