HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-01-09 Council on Aging Minutest - COUNCIL ON AGING JANUARY 9, 1995 TOWN HALL BERGER CONFERENCE ROOM 16 LOWELL STREET READING, MA 01867-2684 Present: Andreola, Cail, Dergay, Foxon, Mele, Mundjer, Page, Trainor, Bond, Hoyt (Board of Selectmen liaison) Absent: Hakanson, excused absence The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys Cail. Minutes of the December 6, 1994, meeting were unanimously accepted upon a motion by Dottye Foxon and seconded by Mary Mundjer. The financial report was reviewed and unanimously accepted upon a motion by Sandy Trainor and seconded by Mary Andreola. The director's report was unanimously accepted upon a motion by Sal Mele and seconded by Mary Andreola. Three support groups are to begin in 1995: Triad (cooperation among senior citizens, RES and RPD), arthritis and low vision. Distribution of Christmas food baskets/dinners was reviewed. Foxon, Andreola, Hakanson and Mele were thanked for assisting with distribution. Discussion centered on awareness of people with needs, how to affect outreach to lonely people, description of Friendly Visitor program. COA members continued discussion of issues regarding health, outreach and education/advocacy. Interest focused on developing and implementing opportunities for health care resources: Blood pressure clinics with follow-up Nutrition programs special clinical diets cooking instruction nutrition education Exercise low impact chair for sedentary people Emergency response CPR Heimlich Mental health Trainor will explore how to create baselines for statistical reporting on programs. Nominating Committee (Andreola, Mundjer, Foxon) will consider characteristics of board membership. One opening needs to be filled by Selectmen.
