HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-05-13 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING May 13, 1996 CONFERENCE ROOM SENIOR CENTER 49 PLEASANT STREET READING, MA 01867 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Dottye Foxon, Mary Mundjer, Naaz Page, Gay Williams, Lois Bond Guests: Mil Dixon, Betty Cronin, Bruce MacDonald The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys Cail. Minutes of the June, 1995 meeting were accepted as amended on a motion by Dottye Foxon and seconded by Mary Andreola. 6-0-0 Director's Report was moved by Dottye Foxon and seconded by Mary Andreola. 6-0-0 Conversations with EMARC (Eastern Middlesex Association for Retarded Citizens) were reviewed with Board members. Salient points discussed by the Board included need for senior citizens to have access to the Center; appropriateness of classes; willingness and ability of teachers to teach a diverse population; lunch and a movie on Mondays were proposed. Bruce Macdonald arrived to discuss the Senior Property Tax/Work Program. Materials from other communities were reviewed. Points of discussion included: 1.) a preference for low income but allowance for extenuating financial circumstances; 2.) skills needed by departments be considered; 3.) IRS income reporting forms be used; 4.) there be flexibility within a household so both spouses may split the 100 hours if there are jobs opportunities; 5.) all financial programs be advertised; 6.) do not interrupt volunteer programming. Dottye Foxon and Mary Andreola will work on the Senior Tax project. Mr. MacDonald left to attend another meeting. The question arose about bingo on the second Tuesday. (The room is scheduled for that day so bingo is not possible.) Members are in agreement that fans in the dining room would greatly help. DPW will be contacted.
