HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-09-16 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING September 16, 1996 Conference Room Town Hall 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867-2684 Present: Mary Andreola, Gladys Cail, Ellen O'Hara, Mary Mundjer, Gay Williams, Joanne Wooldridge, Lois Bond Excused: Dottye Foxon, Naaz Page, Betty Cronin The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys Cail. Minutes of the June 10, 1996 meeting were accepted on a motion by Gay Williams and seconded by Mary Mundjer. 6-0-0 Financial report was reviewed. Monthly reports and statistics from June, July and August were reviewed. Peter Hechenbleikner presented an overview of the Human Services Department. Committees, Commissions, Boards and outside vendors are participating in an evaluation of Department r functions. The five fact finding questions asked by Hechenbleikner are: 1) strongest working relationships within the Department; 2) strongest working relationships outside the Department; 3) strengths of current structure; 4) weakness of current structure; 5) suggestions for future. The three foci for future determination are: 1) replicate, 2) reorganize, 3) regionalize. Hechenbleikner also discussed format for Bond's performance evaluation. Information on performance ("not to be tied to salary") to be given directly to him. The Board continued its discussion after the Town Manager departed. Several suggestions were made including: advertising Recreation Department trips in RES news articles; property tax program brochures at Library and Assessors Office; newspaper article with examples of Department requests for work done through property tax program. Staff will make presentations to Board members beginning with the October meeting. Also to include Joe Connelly from Recreation Department. October meeting will look at budget for FY'97 and FY'98. Also think about new program requests. After discussion, Mary Andreola moved and Gladys Cail seconded a motion to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that Leonard Dergay be removed from membership on the Council on Aging. Bond to forward motion to Selectmen. Discussed the hospital equipment stored at the Center that will be given to the Masons hospital equipment storage facility in Malden. Nominating Committee will take action in October. Holidays will alter the meeting schedule as follows: October 7 November 4 Respectfully submitted, Lois K. Bond
