HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-10-07 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING October 7, 1996 Berger Room Town Hall 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867-2684 Present: Mary Andreola, Betty Cronin, Dottye Foxon, Ellen O'Hara, Gay Williams, Joanne Wooldridge, Lois Bond Excused: Gladys Cail, Mary Mundjer, Naaz Page The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Mary Andreola. Minutes of the September 16, 1996 meeting were accepted on a motion by Gay Williams and seconded by Joanne Wooldridge. 6-0-0 Financial report was reviewed. Directors report was reviewed and accepted on a motion by Dottye Foxon and seconded by Gay Williams. 6-0-0 Bond presented an overview of the the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work Program using a chart of the job possibilities. Two people will be interviewed this week for jobs within DPW. An article is prepared by inclusion in the Reading Notes. for October. Dottye Foxon suggested that at the end of three years, an evaluation be conducted. It was determined it may take this long for the program to become solidified. Foxon will write a thank you note to the Lions Club for the sign they have erected in front of the Center. The Masons will pick up extra hospital equipment kept at the Center on Saturday and take it to their Malden storage facility. Bob Bugden has done an inventory of the equipment. Jolyn Ek, RES Social )ATorker, spoke to the Board about the Social Worker's position and activities. Her total case load of 80 clients includes 25 active cases. She said individual needs determines the level of her participation with the client. She discussed the numerous agencies with which she works. Joanne Wooldridge asked about the needs of clients not covered by VNA, state homecare and RES. Project Hire in Arlington was used as an example of a job bank for people needing respite assistance. A classical or old time theme was suggested for the VCR movie program as a way of increasing attendance. Bond will get details on the breakout of special clinical meals and how many Reading people are utilizing that service. After discussion, Joanne Wooldridge moved and Betty Cronin seconded that the following officers be elected: Chairperson Mary Andreola Vice Chairperson Dottye Foxon Secretary/Treasurer Gay Williams It is recommended that the Board develop a rotation of members through the positions so that upon the completion of one term the officers rotate upward.
