HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-03-10 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING March 10, 1997 Berger Room Town Hall 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867-2684 Present: Gladys Cail, Mary Mundjer, Ellen O'Hara, Gay Williams, Joanne Wooldridge, Lois Bond Excused: Mary Andreola, Betty Cronin, Dottye Foxon, Naaz Page, The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Acting Chairperson Gay Williams. Nvlinutes of the February 10, 1997 meeting were accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Joanne Wooldridge. 5-0-0 Financial report was reviewed and accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and seconded by Joanne Wooldridge 5-0-0 Administrator's report was moved by Gladys Cail and seconded by Joanne Wooldridge. 5-0-0 Mary Mundjer reported on the Reading Aquatic Center Study Group Survey conducted at the Senior Center. People were concerned about the $33 per month charge. There was discussion t ; about the health benefits of such a Center in Reading. Ramblings, the monthly calendar, is being distributed at the Post Office, MassBank and the Reading Cooperative Bank. The lack of Surburban News was discussed. MVES will be at the Center on March 20 to gather information for the four year plan to be formulated by regional home care agencies. COA members are invited to attend. Summerfest information has been received. June 26, Thursday, we will do the strawberry shortcake festival. Information from the MCOA meeting was shared with the Board. There was extended discussion about CORI checks to be completed on volunteers. MCOA will be forwarding information about COA requirements. Gladys Cail moved and Mary Mundjer seconded that the Reading COA encourages the Legislature to use budget line #9110-9002 only for the COA Formula Grant and no other allocation be taken from that line item. Any other use of line #9110-9002 defeats the purpose of equal distribution which is the basis for the Formula Grant. 5-0-0 Board members reviewed several papers including the proposed shopping program survey, MCOA materials, "Store to Door" (shopping program) and Meals on Wheels pamphlets, and a list composed by Sally Hoyt of House and Senate legislative bills pertaining to elders.
