Chairperson Mary Andreola called the meeting to order at 6:22 p.m.
Guest Sally Hoyt, was introduced and talked about pending bills being tracked by the
Silver Haired Legislature. Board members who want updates on bills will notify Bond
who will forward requests to Hoyt. Ms Hoyt left at 8:00 p.m.
Thank you letter was read from John Pacino for COA participation in Summerfest.
Reading
Minutes of the June 9, 1997 meeting were accepted on a motion by Gladys Cail and
seconded by Gay Williams. 8-0-0
The financial report was reviewed and accepted on a motion by Dottye Foxon and
seconded by Betty Cronin. 8-0-0
Administrator's report was moved by Dottye Foxon and seconded by Betty Cronin. 8-0-0
A certificate from the Reading Cooperative Bank was read acknowledging the Bank and
Elder Services participation in a community holiday party last December.
Transportation during elections was discussed. Mary Andreola will contact political
parties and organizations with the idea of increasing older residents participation at the
polls.
Gay Williams moved and Betty Cronin seconded a motion to begin the COA meetings at
7:00 beginning with the October 6 meeting. 8-0-0
CORI information from EOEA and the Attorney General's Office was discussed
regarding the ramifications of criminal offender record information and volunteers
entering elders' homes. Dottye Foxon moved and Betty Cronin seconded a motion to
direct the staff to do CORI checks in accordance with EOEA and the AG's Office
retroactive to March 22, 1997 for permanent volunteers. 8-0-0
Board would like to see more seniors involved in legislative issues and programs. Town
Manager Peter I. Hechenbleikner came to the Center to discuss and listen to concerns.
This will become a monthly program. Homestead Act workshop will be the end of
October.
Resources for computer education for seniors were discussed.
