The results of the Shopping Assistance Coordinator's client survey were presented to the
Board. Overall reaction to the program is very positive and the responsiveness of the
shopping volunteers is greatly appreciated.
The RAD program for older Reading women was discussed. The schedule has been set
for six sessions beginning Oct. 30 and ending Nov. 20. The Police Department's trained
instructors have modified the classes for this training.
The discussion of succession of officers is postponed.
The COA Mission Statement was reviewed and discussed. Consensus is to retain the
current statement.
There was an extensive discussion of how the COA would respond to bequests. It was
determined that responsible guidelines were necessary indicating carefully planned
expenditures in order for people to consider gifts to the Council. Determining the needs
of the older population will lay the groundwork for the guidelines. A study group will be
formed to assess those needs. Preliminary topics could include day care, concern for the
hidden elders, personal medical services at the Center. Joanne Wooldridge and Mary
Andreola asked to be on the study group.
Beth Moore will bring information about a Senior Friends model used by Metro West.
Adjournment at 9:00 p.m.
