Present were Cathy Martin, Carol Grimm and Peter Hechenbleikner. Sue Cavicchi, Tom Stohlman, and Dr. Harutunian attended to discuss a motion by the School Committee to purchase 4 new portable classrooms to be set up at the Barrows School. The projected cost is $240,000 (4 portable classrooms at $80,000 each). The impact of this potential action on the Capital Plan was discussed. It was noted that the Town does not issue debt for individual items under $100,000. The CIAS raised several issues including the cost of transportation of students and where there was space for 4 portables at Barrows. The School Department is going to look at alternatives to addressing class size issues other than the addition of 4 new portables. Peter Hechenbleikner presented a final draft of the FY 1998 -FY 2007 Capital Improvement Program. A number of issues were addressed in this draft. 1) Open space spending is every other year. 2) The $200,000 for optical fiber cable was removed. 3) The library cafe was removed. 4) $100,000 for the compost center was taken out. 5) The Coolidge renovation was reduced to $3,000,000. 6) DPW expansion was moved to FY 01. 'e0 In 7l c We agreed to distribute the plan to lain. Com., Board of Selectmen, School Committee and RMhD for their review and comment. Carol Grimm agreed to do a cover letter for distribution.
