Subject: Cable TV Committee
The Cable TV Committee reorganized at their September 29,._1999 meeting as follows:
Randy Cowell - Chairman
No Vice Chair
Cheri Hart - Secretary
1. The Committee asked to post the vacancy created by Jim Biller's passing. This should be
the School Department representative.
2. Cheri Hart wanted to know if there was anything in the upcoming transfer of the cable license
that allowed the Town to make the transfer conditional should the FCC rule to open up line
access. I said I thought this was unrealistic based on my experience with cable licensing, the
appeal process, etc..
3. A discussion was held on RCN - the Committee is interested in meeting with town
representatives from Somerville and Wakefield to discuss how RCN became interested in
their communities and whether it should be considered an option for Reading.
4. Mike Longo asked a question about question #2 on the memo from the Town Manager - I
said I thought the intent was to ensure that AT&T was ready to go with their customer service
program and emphasize they need to be responsive.
5. The Committee will most likely send a representative (Chairman Cowell) to the Selectmen's
meeting on 10/26 when the transfer is done.
6. It was established the Committee should have an ongoing communication link with RCN on
issues related to contract performance in the cable license.
7. Cheri Hart asked a question relative to the wiring of the schools by MediaOne - what exactly
did they wire? Intranet, etc.. I said I would find the answer to this question.
8. The next Committee meeting was scheduled for October 28'h, 1999 at 7:30 p.m.. Paula pis
coordinate with Randy Cowell on this.
