HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-06-29 Cable TV Advisory Committee MinutesMinutes of Meeting of Reading CATV Advisory Committee June 29, 2000 Meeting was open by Doug Cowell at 7:15 PM. Those present were: Joe Santangelo, Cheri Hart, Doug Cowell, and visitor Phil Rushworth. A. Old Business 1. Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of April 20, 2000 were approved unanimously with the amendment of the correction of Doug Cowell's last name. 2. Contacts by RCN regarding future service: Unanimously agreed that this item will not be acted upon, but that Doug Cowell will attend the Community Cable TV Coalition meeting and report back any information that other communities have to share. 3. Absence of School Committeeyepresentation: Unanimously agreed that Doug will send a letter to Peter Hechenbleinker advising that we are short staffed on this committee and cannot provide a liaison to the School Committee. 4. Internet Access to Reading Schools: Joe Santangelo submitted a report from Russ Dean (attached to these minutes) on Internet access at Reading schools provided by MediaOne. B. New Business 1. Resignation: Cheri Hart reported that Michael Longo resigned from the Committee by telephone to her and to the Town Hall. He has moved out of Reading to Florida. 2. RCTV stereo programming letter from Media One dated May 16, 2000: The committee unanimously agreed that a letter to should be sent to Karen Hayden at RCTV informing her that we think a follow-up letter to MediaOne is necessary to develop an understanding of Reading's position on the intent of the contract with MediaOne regarding stereo transmission for Reading cable subscriberse. 3. Financials of MediaOne, dated April 28, 2000: Committee noted the annual report and decided unanimously that no action was required on their part. 4. Capital Spending Report from MediaOne, letter dated April 3, 2000: Committee noted the contents of the letter and decided no action was required on their part. 5. The next meeting of the Reading CATV Advisory Committee is scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2000 at 7 PM at Reading Town Hall. I telephoned Russ Dean and-questioned him about the wiring of the present schools being connected to the Internet. His response to my query was: "All schools in Reading that are in existence are connected to the Internet. Any new schools will be on the Internet providing the "Town pays the cost of material and labor for the connectivity." The above answer from Russ was given by telephone on November 18, 1999.
