Wheltle was unable to attend. A replacement for Susan
Flannery has not yet been appointed.)
I. CALL TO ORDER
Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM.
II. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
March 19, 1991 and April 30, 1991
VOTED: The minutes of the previous meetings were approved.
III. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Responses to Writers' Committee mailing.
B. John Curtis - Hand Bell Composer
We received a letter asking for details of when we would need
his manuscript and what remuneration we would be willing to
pay. Susan H. and Alan will respond to his letter indicating
that we will reimburse his expenses, providing they are
reasonable, and sponsor him for any Arts Lottery Grants he
would like to apply for.
C. There has been no official communication indicatinq, that a
replacement has been found by the Selectmen for Susan
Flannery's position.
D. Susan Wheltle has not attended a meeting since September,
1990. We wonder whether she is still interested in acting as
the School Department representative to the Committee. Ev
Blodgett will try to talk with her to find out.

Steering Committee
E. William Thomas McKinley talked with Susan Theophanis.
Susan explained that the proposed cello concerto he had been
willing to write was simply too much money to produce. Tom
then suggested he might do a jazz composition which would
cost us a total of about $5,000 to produce. He would need
$1,500 up front and could probably convince a friend
(Stolzman??) to perform. Ed Palmer felt that something like
this would be of interest to the Reading Symphony and they
might be willing to help subsidize the event. Arts Lottery
backup might also be possible. A jazz concert held at the
High School (the auditorium will seat about 1150) would be a
possibility.
IV. COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. 350th Inc. (Paul Sweeney, President)
1. Summerfest, 1991 (July 10-13, 1991)
There will be a meeting at the YMCA on June 2, Sunday from
7:30 until 8:15. Someone should represent our Committee.
We will plan to use Susan Theophanis' canopy and sell our
tee shirts, postcards, Haven Street book, and balloons.
We will also suggest to the planning committee than we
offer face painting for free.
2. Sidewalk Sale (May 30-June 1, 1991)
We will have a table outside the BayBank to sell our
wares. Paul will try to get a few balloons helium-filled
as a display. We will not get a tank until the
Summerfest.
B. Writers' Committee (Ev Blodgett, liaison)
Responses to the mailing have been coming in and some
writing has been done. If enough organizations do not submit
written histories we may have to look at a more pictorial
volume. The meeting of the Committee was postponed (May
22nd).
C. Parade Feasibility Committee (Ed Palmer, liaison)
Ed feels there will be nothing further to report until the
Fall. In the meantime he keep abreast of other celebration
towns and how their parades come off.
D. Wakefield Fourth of July Parade
The Steering Committee had been invited to participate in
this year's Wakefield Fourth of July Parade. We decided not
to, but will be interested to see how successful it is. We
may want to be involved in the future.

cost and liquor restrictions at a number of locations. They
are also considering a Big Band Dance as soon as next winter.
G. Wakefield's 350th (Ev Blodgett, liaison)
This committee is beginning to put together "Then and Now

V. GANTT CHART
We appear to be on target. Alan will send a letter out this

III. COMMUNICATIONS
Susan Horn talked with Ed Driscoll, the postmaster, to ask
about securing a smaller post office box for less money. It
would appear that this would be complicated in that the
Reading Post Office has already given us the fictitious P.O.
Box number of 1994.
IV. FINANCIAL REPORT (Shirley Buzderewicz, Treasurer)
Shirley did not do a Cash Position sheet this month. She has
moved our checking account, in the amount of $2,194.98, to
the Reading Cooperative Bank. Members of the corporation or
the Steering Committee should continue to make deposits
through Shirley, so she can keep our records straight.

On the Fourth of July at 10:00 AM the Antiquarian Society
will sponsor a walking tour of Haven Street beginning at the
parking lot behind CVS. Our booklet and postcards will be on
