(Susan Theophanis and Shirley Buzderewicz were unable to attend. Replacements for Susan Flannery, Ed Palmer and Susan Wheltle have not been appointed yet.) I. CALL TO ORDER Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 7:50 PM. II. RESIGNATIONS Resignation letters from Ed Palmer and Susan Wheltle were presented to the Committee. Ed was the representative`°of the. Historical Commission and the Commission will select his successor;. Susan was the representative of the schools and the School Committee will select her successor. We are still waiting for the Selectmen to appoint a successor for Susan Flannery, who resigned several months ago. III. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING - May 28, 1991 VOTED: The minutes of the previous meeting was approved. IV. COMMUNICATIONS A. Responses to Writers' Committee mailing. B. Survey A survey asking for opinions from Townspeople as to future postcard sets, calendars and historical publications was distributed. Three surveys have been sent back to us. C. Board of Selectmen Liaison The Town Manager has asked us to direct minutes and communications to Selectman George Hines. (Paul Sweeney, President) Steering Committee June 17, 1991 1. Ed Palmer has resigned from the Corporation. Anna Carroll has been voted in as a new director. 2. Sidewalk Sale Paul reported that we did very well financially at the Sale last month. 3. Tee Shirts We have received 13 dozen new tee shirts. They will be on sale in Eugene's, Reading Trophy, and at Summerfest, It was suggested that we look into having them for sale at the Town Hail. 4. Summerfest, 1991 (July 10-13, 1991) Sue Horn attended the last meeting. We have requested a 151x15' area on the grass to set up a canopy. Susan Theophanis has volunteered hers, but Sue Horn also has one. We will have a table (Sue Horn will bring one) from which to sell postcard sets, "It Happened On Haven Street" booklets and tee shirts. Possibly hats, too, from Stewart B1ier. The next Summerfest meeting will be Sunday, June 30 at the YMCA at 7:30. Paul will contact Shirley Buzderewicz about strings for the balloons and he will also get a helium cylinder for the event. Ev Blodgett is making a plywood logo to be approximately 6' high and 10' long which we can use for various purposes in the future. Paul will get purple paint for the project. Alan will provide a floodlight to light the logo. We will be unable to do face painting since Camp Fire is already doing this. The hours for Summerfest will be 6-10 Wed.-Friday and 10- 10 on Saturday ending with fireworks. Special events include: Wednesday: Rock Concert (2 bands) Thursday: Strawberry Festival and LaPierre Dance Troupe Friday: Colonial Chorus and a Supper (supper tentative) Saturday: Barbara Ann's Dance (afternoon); Fireworks B. Writers' Committee (Ev Blodgett, liaison) Responses to the mailing have been coming in. Page 3 C. Publicity Steering Committee June 17, 1991 1. Ed Palmer's Resignation Susan Horn will write a press release about Ed's resignation and the tremendous role he played in getting the 350th off the ground. 2. Haven Street Tour The tour is a joint venture with the Antiquarian Society. It will be held July 4, 1991 at 10:00, leaving from the parking lot behind CVS. 3. "Countdown" Newsletter The newsletter has gone out! D. Wakefield's 350th They have now met three times, selected a logo (thru a contest) and produced Tee Shirts displaying the logo. V. GANTT CHART We are on target. We should be talking about budgets. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Celebration Plans The following proposal was presented by Alan Foulds as an alternative to the four day plan currently serving as this committee's celebration model. PRELIMINARY EVENTS [It is intended that these Events #1-4 be sponsored and executed by various large organizations.] NOVEMBER, 1993 READINGS FAIR FIELD HOUSE An exhibit of the other "Readings" of the world. Also on display a preview of the upcoming celebration. RELEASE OF HISTORICAL PUBLICATION JANUARY, 1994 EVENT #1 FEBRUARY, 1994 EVENT #2 MARCH, 1994 EVENT #3 APRIL, 1994 EVENT #4 Page 4 Steering Committee June 17, 1991 READING'S 350TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL Reading's gala 350th anniversary culminates in a twelve day celebration beginning on May 29 and ending June 10, Reading's Birthday. B. Bice Items and Budget This discussion was postponed until the next meeting. VI. NEXT MEETING Tuesday, September 24, 1991 $:00 P.M. Berger Room Reading Town Hall VIII. At a meeting of the Board of Directors held on June 17, 1991, it was: VOTED: To accept the Minutes of the Meeting of the Corporation which was held May 28, 1991. VOTED: To make Anna Carroll a director of the 350th, Inc. corporation. VOTED: To allow Paul Sweeney $39.75 for a helium cylinder and string attachments for the balloons. CALL TO ORDER Paul Sweeney called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM. II. RESIGNATION AND APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR Paul read Ed Palmer's letter of resignation which stated that Ed did not have the time-to devote to the 350th. It was voted-to make Anna Carroll a director of Reading's 350th, Inc. corporation. III. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING - May 28, 1991 It was voted to accept the Minutes of the last meeting of the Corporation. IV. COMMUNICATIONS Susan Horn reported that we have received at least three new donations since the last meeting. V. FINANCIAL REPORT (Shirley Buzderewicz, Treasurer) There was no Financial Report for this meeting. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Sidewalk Sale Paul reported that we did very well financially at the Sale. B. Tee Shirts • ,We have received 13 dozen new tee shirts. They will be on sale in Eugene's, Reading Trophy, and at Summerfest. Post Cards Since Ed's resignation we will have to discuss who will keep the inventory and supply the sales locations. Since Ed has previously executed production of sets 1-3, we will have to decide on what we will do about future sets. D. Hats Reading Trophy suggested we silk screen baseball hats when we decided to do hats. Their hat (without the silk screening) will cost $3.50 each. E. Summerfest Sue Horn attended the last meeting.
