HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-09-24 Celebration Trust Committee Minutes6 ~ b b O b 1644 1994 READIN&MASSACHUSETTS 350th ANNIVERSARY Minutes of the 20th Meeting of Reading's 350th Anniversary Celebration Steering Committee September 24, 1991, Tuesday .8:00 PM Berger Room Reading Town Hall Committee Members Attending: Alan Foulds, Chairman.; Everett Blodgett; Shirley Buzderewicz; Susan Horn; Nancy Smethurst; Paul Sweeney; Cathy Quimby; and Susan Theophanis. (A replacement for Susan Wheltle has not been appointed by the School Committee.) I. CALL TO ORDER Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM. II. INTRODUCTION OF'NEW MEMBERS Cathy Quimby and Nancy Smethurst were introduced. Cathy is replacing Susan Flannery who was appointed by the Selectmen. Nancy is replacing Ed Palmer who was appointed by the Historical Commission. Alan Foulds gave a quick review of past two years for new members' benefit III. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING It was voted to accept the minutes of the June 17, 1991 meeting as presented. IV. ED PALMER'S COMMENTS Each member of our Committee received a letter of summary from former member, Ed Palmer, containing suggestions and criticism of the progress we have made. Furthermore, Ed addressed the Historical Commission on August 6, 1991 summarizing his term on this Committee. He delivered an audio tape of this address to Alan Foulds and a transcript of the same was distributed to each Committee member. A letter replying to Ed will be drafted by Susan Horn who will present it to this Committee at the next meeting. This will be done in deference to the time he spent summarizing his version of the past two years as well as to correct factual errors he presented. COMMITTEE AND LIAISON REPORTS A. 350th, Inc. (Paul Sweeney, President) Coffee mugs bearing the logo will be ordered and we are planning a Mug and.Muffin event to sell coffee (in our mug) and a muffin for $3.50. B. Writers' Committee (Everett Blodgett, liaison) Historical summaries have continued to come in. C. Anniversary Ball (Susan Theophanis, liaison) There has been no further meeting of this committee. D. Jazz Concert - William Thomas McKinley Susan Theophanis will contact the Reading Symphony asking whether this type of concert would be of interest. It is more financially feasible in the eyes of the Committee. E. Parade Perhaps we could do it jointly with Wakefield. F. Firewerk-s, Wally Grover is the man to speak with about fire works. G. Publicity Cathy Quimby and Nancy Smethurst will jointly take over this function done previously by Susan Flannery. H. Wakefield 350th (Everett Blodgett, liaison) There has been no further contact with Wakefield's Committee. VII. ON-GOING REVIEWS A. GANTT Chart review will be postponed until next time. B. Celebration Period review Alan suggested moving the Chowderfest up a day to leave the Grand Ball evening more open. VIII.OLD BUSINESS A. Presentation to Clubs and Organizations Susan Theophanis will get a list of organizations. Alan is lining up presentation dates to explain our plans to various organizations. B. NEXT MEETING We will discuss rules and budget and define "sponsorship" as it applies to organizations and events. Susan Horn will get a list of sub-committees for the new members of the Steering Committee. The next meeting will be: Tuesday, October 15, 1991 8:00 PM Berger Room Reading Town Hall X.
