Readings Of The World Ed Palmer left the following note for the Committee: "Before I left the Committee, I had asked if it would be ok to send postcard packages to some of the other Readings. I held off until this month and have sent greeting packages to Reading, Michigan - to thank them for their package; one to Reading, Minnesota who, for some reason, never received our first package; and today, I sent packages to Reading, PA and Watkins Glen, NY. Ever since we sent these packages in 1988 I have kept touch with persons in all of these Readings by mail and by phone calls. I felt this was one thing I could continue to do to help the Committee. I hope no one objects I will keep you informed about anything that might be sent directly to me. I hope Ev Blodgett gets a chance to see the book from Reading, Michigan - some good ideas could be learned from it. I meant to -add why I held up sending the packages. The packages included the new Reading Calendar, the MassBank Calendar of last year (with corrections) and the new Christmas Lights postcard." Someone else has apparently taken on the project. IV COMMITTEE AND LIAISON REPORTS A. 350th. Inc. :Paul Sweeney, President: .i. Christmas Lighting Of The Common - Dec. ist Arnold Berger has offered to let us set up a table to sell our mugs (for $3.50) next to the table Doug Wade will have set up for the hot chocolate traditionally offered at the event. We can start as early as 2:00. Sue Horn, Ev and Shirley will cover this sales opportunity. B. Writer--,' Committee (Everett Blodgett, liaison) At a recent meeting two people showed up. There is still a problem of lack: of writers and are abundance of editors. Alan presented an outline for the history book:. They have a lot of information from the churches, at this point, and a couple of clubs and organizations. Possibilities were discussed of an oral history, a video, or a pictorial volume. C. Arlriivrsary_ Ball They will convene in the Spring, 1992. D. Parade Cathy Quimby talked with the Shriners who have 21 marching units that, she has been told, we can get for $3000-$40(--)0. This figure seems too good to be true. Cathy will follow up. If this can be done for this amount John Shaw will be interested AGAIN in chairing this committee. An arrangement to trade our high school band to North Reading and Wakefield for parade purposes might also provide a way of getting two more bands to march. E. Wakefield 350th (Everett Blodgett, liaison) At a recent meeting, attended by Alan Foulds, they discussed having a Mug and Muffin Day, producing an historical volume, Heritage Day (opening up of certain houses), and the 4•th of July Parade. V. OLD BUSINESS A. Presentation to clubs and Or ga i z at i ons 1. Boy Scouts Reading is part of a 22 town district. They would be interested in organizing a C:arrfp-O-Ree if we can provide a site of open land and secure permits for open fires. They would also be interested in running a Pancake Breakfast and, perhaps, an event in a hall at the Jubileve. We should be back: in touch in November, 1992 when they will be setting up their 1994 calendar. 2. Camp Fire Alan pave a very brief presentation which, he felt, was received very casually. Sue Horn pointed out that Camp Fire is in the throws of some major re--organization and the members could well have been distracted by that. Page 4. 350th Steering Committee November 19, 1991 B. Bridget Alan presented the following ball park: budget. We also decided businesses should be made aware of what we are planning even though we aren't soliciting from therm yet.
