meeting as presented.
III. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Readings Of The World
Ed Palmer left the following note for the Committee:
"Before I left the Committee, I had asked if it would be ok
to send postcard packages to some of the other Readings. I
held off until this month and have sent greeting packages to
Reading, Michigan - to thank them for their package; one to
Reading, Minnesota who, for some reason, never received our
first package; and today, I sent packages to Reading, PA and
Watkins Glen, NY. Ever since we sent these packages in 1988
I have kept touch with persons in all of these Readings by
mail and by phone calls. I felt this was one thing I could
continue to do to help the Committee. I hope no one objects
I will keep you informed about anything that might be sent
directly to me. I hope Ev Blodgett gets a chance to see the
book from Reading, Michigan - some good ideas could be
learned from it. I meant to -add why I held up sending the
packages. The packages included the new Reading Calendar,
the MassBank Calendar of last year (with corrections) and the
new Christmas Lights postcard."

Reading Calendar 1991--92 (subject: Schools)
sold by the Rainbow Girls
MassBank: 1991 Calendar (with historical corrections)
"It Happened On Haven Street" booklet
Postcard sets
Christmas Lights postcard (sold to benefit the
Christmas Lights can the Common -fund)
A binder of selected publicity items
P._ Reading Historical Commission
The letter we sent to Ed Palmer last month was to be copied
to the Historical Commission. By error, someone put the copy
back: into the 350th box at the Town Hall and it never reached
the Historical Commission. Fancy Smethurst will personally
deliver it to their Dec. 3rd meeting.
C. Ed Pal mer' s Christmas Ui gt,t s L41 9V Ug
in tl~e course of the past r►yonth, Ed called various Committee
members with an idea of enlarging the Christmas Lights scene
he had taken and use it for a fund raiser. It was never
brought before the Committee for a vote, nor was it clear as
,._w.. to whether Ed was asking for money to produce the blow-up,
or, possibly, our permission to solicit funds to produce it.
Someone else has apparently taken on the project.
IV COMMITTEE AND LIAISON REPORTS
A. 350th. Inc. :Paul Sweeney, President:
.i. Rug-and-Muffin Day at the Old Fire Housee Nov. 23, 9--noon
We will sell coffee and hot or cold cider in a Reading 357th
mug (which the purchaser can keep) for $3.50. Muffins from
Atlantic and Donut Holes will be an additional amount, as yet
undetermined. Beverages in paper cups will be available for
$.50. Leftover muffins will be frozen and donated to the
Council on Aging. There will be a table set up to sell our
Tee Shirts, "It Happened On Haven Street" booklet and
postcard sets. There will also be a Kids' Table featuring
face painting, homemade candy for sale, and renderings of the
Old Fire House to be colored. We will decorate with the 67
high wooden logo, and, perhaps, a display of fire pictures
that Ev will try to pull together, time allowing. Several
fire fighters are willing to drop by. David Roy has a video
of the Main Street Cafe burning, which we may be able to
borrow. We will also buy about $20 worth of helium to
inflate decorative balloons. Advertising of the event has
been by way of pesters around town, flyers and articles in
the Suburban News and the Daily Time Chronicle. Alan, Anna
and Ev wild over the 9--noon time with other committee
members encouraged and welcomed to help.

2. Christmas Lighting Of The Common - Dec. ist
Arnold Berger has offered to let us set up a table to sell
our mugs (for $3.50) next to the table Doug Wade will have
set up for the hot chocolate traditionally offered at the
event. We can start as early as 2:00. Sue Horn, Ev and
Shirley will cover this sales opportunity.
B. Writer--,' Committee (Everett Blodgett, liaison)
At a recent meeting two people showed up. There is still a
problem of lack: of writers and are abundance of editors. Alan
presented an outline for the history book:. They have a lot
of information from the churches, at this point, and a couple
of clubs and organizations. Possibilities were discussed of
an oral history, a video, or a pictorial volume.
C. Arlriivrsary_ Ball
They will convene in the Spring, 1992.
D. Parade
Cathy Quimby talked with the Shriners who have 21 marching
units that, she has been told, we can get for $3000-$40(--)0.
This figure seems too good to be true. Cathy will follow up.
If this can be done for this amount John Shaw will be
interested AGAIN in chairing this committee. An arrangement
to trade our high school band to North Reading and Wakefield
for parade purposes might also provide a way of getting two
more bands to march.
E. Wakefield 350th (Everett Blodgett, liaison)
At a recent meeting, attended by Alan Foulds, they discussed
having a Mug and Muffin Day, producing an historical volume,
Heritage Day (opening up of certain houses), and the 4•th of
July Parade.
V. OLD BUSINESS
A. Presentation to clubs and Or ga i z at i ons
1. Boy Scouts
Reading is part of a 22 town district. They would be
interested in organizing a C:arrfp-O-Ree if we can provide a
site of open land and secure permits for open fires. They
would also be interested in running a Pancake Breakfast and,
perhaps, an event in a hall at the Jubileve. We should be
back: in touch in November, 1992 when they will be setting up
their 1994 calendar.
2. Camp Fire
Alan pave a very brief presentation which, he felt, was
received very casually. Sue Horn pointed out that Camp Fire
is in the throws of some major re--organization and the
members could well have been distracted by that.

B. Bridget
Alan presented the following ball park: budget. We also
decided businesses should be made aware of what we are
planning even though we aren't soliciting from therm yet.
Alan will be making a presentation to the Chamber of Commerce
soon.
