III. COMMUNICATIONS
As a result of the mailing to clubs and organizations, Colonial
Chorus has offered to perform a play at their Hose House building
for Jubileve and also to construct a float for the parade. Old
South Church has offered the use of their halls for Jubileve and
also plans a float and an old-time "Father Kemp" style concert.
Arnold Berger and Bruce Morang will "take care of" lighting the
Common during the 13-night celebration period but no purple bulbs
can be obtained so the lights will most likely be all white.
Alan Foulds spoke at a Rotary Club meeting and at Understanding
Handicaps. Responses from individuals at these meetings were
very positive, but no formal commitments were made at this time.

IV. OTHER BUSINESS
A. Sub-Committee Reports
The Business Community liaison (Shirley) had contacted a few lo-
cal banks regarding a possible low cost loan for book publica-
tion, but reported that obtaining this financing would be very
difficult. She is scheduled to be on the agenda for the February
meeting of the Reading Chamber of Commerce and hopes to enlist
the Chamber's support, both as a group and individually.
The Book Committee has some chapters completed and will continue
meeting with potential publishers. To date, the book is
scheduled to have approximately 256 pages with 400 or 500 photos
and to be sold at a price of $35.00. The Book Committee has ten-
tatively approached the Antiquarian society regarding possible
assistance in financing the publication, but the Antiquarian
Society has not taken action. The 350th Steering Committee voted
to direct the Book Committee to investigate the books published
by Danvers and Sudbury for comparative analysis of sales figures,
costs, population, etc. The 350th Committee also voted to offer
a directional motion to the Book Committee that publication costs
should be kept to $30,000 and the base sales price of the book
should be $35.00 with allowances for pre-subscription and volume
discounts.
The Parade Committee has voted a new route of approximately two
miles. Written confirmation has not been received from the
Shriners to date. Dave Bunten will investigate the possibility
of having the parade designated a band competition which would
attract a number of groups. The feasibility of placing an ar-
ticle on the 1993 Annual Town Meeting Warrant to fund the police
and department of public works costs associated with the parade
will be discussed at the next Steering Committee Meeting.
B. Fund Raisina
Paul Sweeney reported that the Reading Municipal Light Department
had done a terrific job in fixing up the taxi stand on Haven
Street as an outlet for our use. Proper and effective signage is
being investigated for this building. The 350th Committee will
also investigate the possibility of inserting an informational
flyer in a RMLD monthly bill mailing, which reaches every
household in Reading.
Alan Foulds presented an advertising proposal and sample contract
for commercial sponsorship. A Fitchburg bicycle race receives
corporate funding through similar means. The proposal and con-
tract sample will be discussed more thoroughly at the next meet-
ing.
V. NEXT MEETING - February 9, 1993 Tuesday, 7:30 P.M.
VI. ADJOURNMENT - Alan Foulds adjourned the meeting at 9:55 p.m.
