and ask for a written proposal.
IV. OTHER BUSINESS

with the Shriners. Estimated costs to date appear to be in the

that date, but are not calculated in the cost estimate. The Jr.

Women's Club and the Birch Meadow PTO have expressed an interest
in preparing a float for the parade, and Joshua Eaton PTO had
previously responded. Judy O'Hare will assist groups in building
large puppets. The Fire Chief is arranging for antique fire en-
gines to participate in the parade.
Cherrie Dubois was introduced as a possible volunteer grant
writer. An ad looking for volunteer grant writers will appear in
the next Reading "Notes."
On July 13, the 350th Steering Committee will meet jointly with
the Board of Selectmen to recap what has been done so far and to
discuss what is planned.
Anna Carroll had a preliminary Jubileve meeting with people who
had expressed an interest in serving on the committee. Possible
events, sites and committee organization were discussed. Both
the VFW and the Legion Halls have been booked--fees can be nego-
tiated depending on budget constraints. Joanne Secher has con-
tacted some performers asking for a benefit performance on June
4. Jubileve will start immediately after the parade and a food
court was suggested as part of this activity. Amanda Foulds sug-
gested a door-decorating contest as part of the 350th celebration
period. A motion was made and voted to designate purple and
white petunias as the official flower of the 350th Celebration.
The Garden Club will be contacted to pursue contests for door
decorations and landscaping during the anniversary period.
Everett Blodgett reported that the 1994 graduation date could
conflict with the 350th Field Day. He brought this potential
conflict to the attention of the School Superintendent and the
date is still under discussion with the School Committee. Paul
will contact the YMCA who offered to run the Field Day event.
Alan Foulds left at approximately 9:20 p.m., and Paul Sweeney
acted as Chairman in Alan's absence.
Everett reported sales of 174 copies of the book to date. Use of
the Town Seal still needs the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
The loan contracts are ready to be signed and publication is
still planned for November. An order form will appear in the
next Reading "Notes" portion of the Suburban News.
The Ball Committee is meeting on Thursday night to discuss pos-
sible locations. To serve liquor at the Library would require a
Town Meeting vote, and the safe number of occupants would have to
be determined by the Building Inspector. Camp Curtis Guild is
also under consideration.
Mary Williams will write an article on the Parade plans next and
subsequently on the book and Jubileve. Mary would like to spot-
light the various subcommittees and keep the community informed
and hopefully get citizens more involved. Information can be
published in the Massachusetts Tourist Calendar for next spring.

Photos would be very helpful for publicity purposes. Cable
television should be used and producing a video for that purpose
was suggested.
Shirley Buzderewicz reported favorable comments on the draft let-
ter to businesses. There is a possibility that some of the busi-
ness community would like to be involved in Reading Day.
